Influencers’ Pillow For Sale Alleged to be Social Experiment; Online Store No Longer Live

If you’ve been online for the past 72 hours, you’d have come across a website called The Sleeping Beauties.

Its purpose? To get you to sleep with beauties. Or, to be more exact, to have a beauty sleep on pillows previously owned by beautiful Singapore influencers.

There are a total of 24 pillows used by 24 different influencers on offer, with most within the $50-$100 range:

If you think that’s all, take a look at some of the testimonials featured on the site:

Well, given how nice and friendly Singapore netizens are, you can be sure that a storm is brewing ahead for the influencers.

And it did.

It got so bad that now, influencers are coming forward with their own side of the story.

Influencers’ Pillow For Sale Alleged to be Social Experiment; Online Store No Longer Live

On 21 Dec 2020, the “owner” of the most expensive pillow (at S$200), Avander Ho, took to her Instagram Stories to clarify the incident.

According to her, she was contacted by a media company who asked if she would like to take part in a social experiment on whether people would buy pre-loved pillows.

There were no pre-loved pillows involved, she clarified, and even the pillow that she took a picture with was a brand new one sent to her.

Even if there are interested buyers out there, the media company had assured her that they’ll receive brand new pillows.

It was added that the media company isn’t going to do anything about it and told her to keep her silence until a video is up, which is mid-January 2021.

If that’s not enough, she was allegedly told by the media company that since she has signed up for the project, she should’ve been prepared for the backlash.

Jasmine Ng, who also took to her Instagram Stories to share her version of the events, also claims that it was a social experiment.

She clarified that the media company had approached all 24 of the influencers to take part in a social experiment.

Both of them did not name the company involved.

Not all influencers agree, however, and another influencer involved in the saga, Kimberley Yong, said that the entire thing was for charity.

However, unlike what the site states, the pillows sold are brand new, and part of the money earned will go to charity, she claims.

As for whether this is a case of media company scamming influencers, or telling different stories to different people, I guess only time will tell.

On a separate note, The Sleeping Beauties website is no longer live and pillows, no matter used or new, are no longer being sold.

Maybe they’re…sold out? #justsaying
