Have you been in a group assignment where everyone seems to dump their work on you?
No? Then you’re probably the person doing all the dumping!
Well, this story is basically a “group assignment” gone horribly wrong, triggering a Fight Club-like scene where one of the “fighters” went all “cannibalistic” on the other person’s ear.
Inmate Bit Off Part of Fellow Inmate’s Ear Coz’ of Spilled Coffee Powder
On 15 December 2020, at around 3:10pm, two inmates were in a workshop packing coffee powder into sachets on the fifth floor of Block B3 in Changi Prison.
56-year-old Teo Chye Lye and 53-year-old Lim Lee Yat were doing their work side-by-side.
At that time, Teo spilled some coffee powder he was supposed to pack onto the table.
Instead of sweeping the powder up and packed them, Teo swept the powder to Lim’s side of the table, forcing the younger man to have to pack more coffee sachets.
Naturally, Lim was furious.
No one likes having other people’s work dumped onto them after all.
They argued, and during the argument, the 56-year-old told the 53-year-old not to split hairs.
But the verbal argument turned for the worse and a fight broke out.
Lim threw the first punch, hitting Teo in the face, and Teo retaliated.
During the fight, Teo bit off a pretty huge chunk out of Lim’s left ear.
When the other inmates noticed the gruesome fight, they hastened to inform the prison guards.
They also yelled at the two men to stop fighting and called for medical assistance.
The fight ended as quickly as it began when a prison officer stepped in.
He also found part of Lim’s ear on the floor.
Lim was sent to Changi General Hospital for treatment.
According to the medical report, the doctor was unable to reattach the bitten-off part of the ear, and hence, Lim will have suffered permanent disfigurement.
He also has bruises around his left eye.
Teo, on the other hand, had multiple bruises on his face.
Getting Extra 10 Months Added to His Sentence for Assault
In court, Teo pleaded guilty to assaulting Lim.
The judge sentenced him to 10 months in prison, though this prison sentence will only start after he completed his previous sentence.
Since Teo also suffered substantial bruising to his face, Lim was given a stern warning by the judge.
The missing piece of his ear would serve as a great reminder not to start fights in the future as well.
