Keen to train up for your IPPT under the watchful eyes of fitness instructors? Or maybe, you just want to go to the nearby park to train under a qualified coach.
Whichever you are, I’ve got some news for you.
More IPPT Activities to Resume from 4 Jan; IPT-in-the-Park to Resume
On 21 Dec 2020, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) announced that more IPPT-related activities will resume from 4 Jan 2020.
This includes IPPT preparatory training (IPT) at Fitness Conditioning Centres (FCCs) as well as those at the park, IPT-in-the-Park.
For those worried about safety, Mindef says that these training will be conducted in line with Phase 3 guidelines, including reduced capacity and in small groups.
Other safe management measures that’ll also be implemented are:
- Temperature-checking
- Physical distancing
- Wearing of masks at all times (except during strenuous exercise)
NSMen can start booking their IPT sessions from 28 Dec 2020, the day Singapore enters Phase 3.
Lest you’re confused, IPT is different from IPPT: you just need to do an IPPT once a year, but you need to do multiple IPT sessions a year to fulfil your IPPT requirements. You can watch this video to the end to know more (and also subscribe to our YouTube channel for more informative videos!):
Will Continue Monitoring The Situation
With regards to the Covid-19 situation, Mindef says it’ll continue to monitor the current Covid-19 situation and review the measures to keep our soldiers safe.
Other than that, Mindef is also reviewing the NS IPPT system and will reveal the details of the review when ready.
“The SAF has also been reviewing our NS IPPT system, and will release details of the review when ready. We thank our NSmen for their continued commitment to national service.”
Previously, In-Camp-Training (ICT) and IPPT for NSMen were suspended on 31 Mar 2020.
IPPT and RT were originally scheduled to resume but Mindef suddenly suspended the sessions for Sep 2020, along with ICT.
Subsequently, Mindef progressively resumed SAF ICT and IPPT from 1 Oct 2020 with safe management measures, including swab tests, in place.

As for those who are left in the middle of nowhere since your birthday falls after 7 Feb 2021, yet you only have a single month to complete your IPT sessions, you can call the NS Hotline at 1800-367-6767 for advice.
On a separate note, there is still a group of people who might have their IPPT cancelled this year.
Two of the folks at Goody Feed who are above 35 years old had their FFI (Fit for Instruction) for this year cancelled.
NSmen who are 35 or above need to go through a health screening (known as Health Screening Programme, but people like to call it “FFI”) to ensure that they can still go for their IPPT due to their age.
Without their FFI, they can’t take their IPPT, so they managed to get out of it.
You’d think they’ll be happy but given how both are fit people, they’re crying over the missed $500 bonus and free health screening from the government. #TotallyCannotRelate
