When people cheat while in committed relationships, they are sometimes forgiven by their partners and the people around them.
When celebrities cheat, on the other hand, the public does not forgive and forget. Ever.
Such as the case of Jacqueline Wong.
Returning Home
For eight months, TVB actress Jacqueline Wong went into hiding from the media frenzy and spotlight, after she was discovered to be cheating with married actor, Andy Hui. She was forced to escape overseas due to the unbearable hatred that was directed at her.
Finally, she has come home.
She touched down at the Hong Kong airport at 6.53am in the morning and was received by her sister Scarlett Wong’s manager as well as personnel from TVB.
Unfortunately, waiting for her was a crowd of reporters who anticipated her arrival, ambushing her and bombarding her with questions. She came out of the arrival gate with tears in her eyes, very happy to be home.
“I’m so happy, I’m finally home!” Wong told the reporters. “The past eight months, I tried really hard to live my life. I heard that there has been a lot of speculation (on what I’ve been up to) but I’ve only been trying to live my life and I would love to move on and look forward. I made a mistake, and I’m trying really hard to live with it, to learn from it. Whatever I have wanted to say or have said, I’ve already said it in private. I would not be responding to any more questions about the incident. Now that I’m back, my priority is to spend time with my family. Thank you all for concern during this period.”
Wong also had to clarify rumours that she had left acting, changed her name, and entered a new field, selling properties.
“Firstly, I didn’t change my name and I didn’t change career,”, she said. She added that she was just trying to live her life when she was abroad.
Caught Cheating
Jacqueline Wong was originally in a committed relationship with fellow actor Kenneth Ma.
However, Wong and 51-year-old married singer Andy Hui were caught making out in the back of a taxi, a video of which was posted online.
This triggered a huge backlash, forcing Wong to escape the country, while Hui held a press conference to apologise to his wife and the public.
Relentless
Despite the fact that what they did was wrong, the relentless media pressure on them that threatens to tear their futures apart seems a bit much.
Imagine if it were anyone else in your life who had such an incident, you would not like the ones who cheated, but you would also not condemn them endlessly.
Humans make mistakes, people. Let’s learn to forgive.
