Your Guide to the Cheapest Coffee at Kallang’s Jalan Benaan Kapal Food Centre

Before you pack your bags and head over to Kallang to stockpile the most affordable coffee in town, here’s what you should know.

A humble drinks stall nestled in the less crowded Jalan Benaan Kapal Food Centre, near Singapore Sports Hub (which means it’s near Stadium MRT Station, too), has been making headlines with its shockingly affordable kopi.

The hardworking stall owner, Yang Zhonghe, has been serving customers for over 55 years and has astonishingly managed to maintain a steady price for the last two decades.

As per food blogger Miss Tam Chiak, the stall, with its unassuming lack of signboard, used to sell a cup of kopi-o for a mere $0.40. Today, the price for a small cup stands at $0.50.

And what about the larger size we’re familiar with? It’s just $0.60.

Indeed, you may find this cheaper than a cup of syrup water in your local primary school canteen!

The Secret Behind the Cheapest Coffee in Singapore

Starting his day bright and early, Mr Yang wakes up at 4am and opens his stall by 7am. Even though there’s another drink stall at Jalan Benaan Kapal Food Centre, his kopi attracts the crowd.

Despite customers encouraging him to raise his prices, Mr Yang insists on maintaining the current price as long as he isn’t running at a loss. Interestingly, his overhead costs are also reduced as the stall owners are responsible for their own tableware cleaning, eliminating the need for additional cleaning expenses.

When Shin Min Daily News visited the stall on a Saturday morning, they witnessed a long queue of loyal patrons. A group of nine people even shared that they managed to save up to $8 on their breakfast at this venue.

Here’s a fun fact: a large tree adjacent to the stall was planted by Mr Yang himself when he first opened his stall. So, it’s as aged as his stall!

So, if you’re searching for the cheapest coffee in Singapore, look no further than the Jalan Benaan Kapal Food Centre. It might just become your next favorite spot for a morning brew.

Just be prepared for a long queue.
