Whether it’s rain or shine, the Workers’ Party will be there forever….

You can stand under (merch) umbrella—

Hold on, wait, I swear I’m not actually promoting the Workers’ Party or anything, or bastardising Rihanna’s iconic song, I swear.

Workers’ Party Comes Up with a Line of Umbrellas

On 8 February, Workers’ Party Member of Parliament Jamus Lim went onto Facebook to promote the latest line of umbrellas that his political party is now selling.

While Jamus Lim doesn’t have the curves and moves of Rihanna, you have to admit that he makes up for it with his thousand-watt smile befitting of a Colgate commercial, with a touch of lightening filter to make him even more ethereal.

But that’s besides the point.

The long handle umbrella that he is holding is selling for S$16, while the compact and foldable version sells for S$13 on the Workers’ Party website.

Admittedly, the colour scheme of light blue, navy blue, and black with the contrasting yellow and red Workers’ Party logo does make a statement.

It’s practical too; no one can say Singapore has no need for umbrellas with the terrible heat or temperamental rainstorms.

Supports the Workers’ Party Financially and Expressively

It isn’t really a secret in Singapore that the People Action’s Party is a towering white giant in the political arena whilst the other opposition parties are akin to trembling fawns making their appeals to the public.

Then, after the election ends, they seem to disappear into thin air like they never existed.

In a bid to keep the Workers’ Party relevant, Lim stated that branching into merchandise sales is “one of the few ways” that the opposition parties can raise funds and keep party finances healthy in the non-election years, where public political interest often takes a nosedive into nothingness.

“While it makes a statement (of support), it is also a fine, handsome umbrella, which does a fantastic job of keeping the elements at bay, whether rain or shine,” Lim declared.

And much to his joy, he has also seen residents of Sengkang, the Constituency that he runs, using those umbrellas happily.

So if you’re a supporter of the Workers’ Party, consider buying one, I suppose?
