As any nihon fanboy would surely attest to, Japan’s leagues apart from Singapore.
“Japanese-chan’s the best-desu,” he would say. “Japan-chan owns Singapore-san anytime, uh-huh. Japan has the best culture–ttebayo. The girls are cute-desu. Most importantly, Japan-chan’s nowhere as unappealing as Singapore-san.
“Singapore-san is disgusting, what with its kiasu and kiasi attitude-desu. Japan-chan will never do it! Right Japan-chan?”
And then he would kiss a life-sized anime body pillow on the lips and go “Bokuwa aishteru! Teehee!”
Now, as delusional as BodyPillowLover94 above seems to be, he has a point: Japan does seem to be above such crude acts. Despite a string of purportedly unreported sexual harassment cases and fetishes that make Kurt Tay’s boob job seem fairly normal in comparison, Japan doesn’t seem to be a country with citizens as ‘third-class’ like the ones in Singapore.
Mask hoarding and stuff?
Nah, it’s beneath Japan.
Or so BodyPillowLover94 thought.
Yes, folks. Yes, BodyPillowLover94. Japan might be magnificent in all of its technology and polite demeanour, but it seems that when it comes to human survival…
They’re just about the same as Singapore.
Video Shows How Japanese Have Also Hoarded All Masks in Healthcare Shop
Singaporeans might’ve been grabbing headlines because of all the wrong reasons, but it seems that somewhere in Anime-land, things aren’t exactly that far off.
Just four days ago, Youtube channel WOW That’s Japan published a video on the video-sharing platform, alongside the accompanying caption:
PANIC IN JAPAN!! NO SURGICAL MASKS! CORONAVIRUS SCARE!!!
“Hi everyone!” the channel wrote in the video’s information counter. “I was at a Japanese drugstore called Kosmos this evening and wanted to check out the surgical masks. When I got to the area where they keep them, I was surprised to see all the shelves empty!”
It then wrote: “This channel will talk about life in Japan. It will also show you how to do things in Japan.”
Pretty sure they’re not intentionally related, but still. But anyway, the video delivered its promise:
It painted a bleak and empty picture as I perused all 63 seconds of the video, all too aware of that familiar, sinking sensation in my murtabak-laden heart.
And like Singapore, it seems that Japan had to take matters into its own hands.
Yep, similar enough alright.
You can watch the eye-opening video down below.
Asian Mentality
To be fair, the video doesn’t act as conclusive proof that all Japanese are rabid mask hoarders. After all, it is one video-
What, so it’s an Asian mentality now?
Well, I guess we just have to be best at everything, huh?
On an ending note, however, please try to avoid such acts yourself as there are people who genuinely need it. So believe in humanity…
And do the right thing.
Because you really shouldn’t hoard masks.
Surgical Masks Are Short in Demand Worldwide
The WHO chief has come out to say that the supply of surgical masks is now “insufficient”, and it’s due to “widespread inappropriate use of PPE outside patient care.”
In other words, the very simple act of someone wearing a mask when he doesn’t need one could contribute to the lack of masks in important places, like a hospital.
So save your money for something else. Maybe some sushi?
