Remember earlier this year, Jetstar introduced new in-flight announcements in Singlish from 1 April 2016 onwards, only to later inform us that it’s merely an April’s Fool joke?
If not, here’s the video that has captured many Singaporeans’ heart.
Well, this time, it’s not a joke.
Jetstar is going to use Singlish for their in-flight announcements for return flights to Singapore on 9 August 2016 to celebrate Singapore’s 51st birthday. According to them, after the April Fool’s joke went viral, people told them that they loved the idea and would like to see it materialized.
Here; they’ve confirmed it already liao.
I was expecting Singaporeans to go, “Wah, COOL!” but I guess some Singaporeans still couldn’t take the joke. Here’re a few comments from Channel NewsAsia’s Facebook page.
Singaporeans are not the only passengers on Jetstar flights. There will be passengers from other countries as well who may not get the drift of the announcements.
Really so hard to understand meh?
“Swee” isn’t Singlish… unless one thinks Singlish is a mix of English and Mandarin (or Chinese dialects). Just stick to English because the accent would be difficult enough to understand.
Grammar Nazis got focus on Singlish grammar one meh?
Use some more Singlish when go interview. No wonder FT took away our rice bowl. A wake up CALL to us
Why am I not surprised? Actually, I am surprised: where’s the 70% reference thingy?
Epic failed. Disgrace to the country English standards.
Wah lao. The last I know, Singapore English comprises Standard Singapore English and Singapore Colloquial English. When Singlish has such an atas name, why you say it’s disgraceful?
But anyhow, whoever is taking a flight back to Singapore on 9 August 2016, I envy you, because the Kevin Khoo is are so cool!
