Josephine Teo Suffers Injury Walking into Glass Door; Netizen Reactions are Split

Social media posts by Singapore’s politicians are generally kept to community outreach programs or a few responses to an overseas matter. They all sort of blur together.

The Facebook post today (25 July) by Mrs Josephine Teo, however, highlighted her perilous encounter with a glass door instead.

Minister Josephine Teo Walks into Glass Door

Mrs Teo, Singapore’s current Minister for Communications and Information and Second Minister of Home Affairs, told Singaporeans not to be alarmed seeing her with a black eye for the next few days.

She didn’t give much detail, but apparently, she walked right into an open glass door when lost in thought.

“I must have been thinking about work,” she wrote.

The collision with the door gashed her “left brow-bone” open an inch wide, forcing Mrs Teo to seek medical treatment.

There is no word on the injuries suffered by the glass door.

She thanked the doctor and medical staff who treated her at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), who stitched the gash back up.

Mrs Teo called the wound “not as visible (or dramatic)” now, showing photos of the stitched gash that ran across her left eyebrow and onto her eyelid.

There was some visible swelling and bruising, which she compared to terrible blue-black makeup.

A second photo also showed a huge square plaster over her eyebrow.

She then publicly thanked Senior Minister of State Janil Puthucheary and Minister of State Sun Xueling for covering for her in her missed engagements on 24 July.

Netizens Offer Both Well Wishes and Jabs

Many netizens wished her a speedy recovery, including some praying for her healing.

Others were less impressed by the post, with three Instagram comments in a row stacking “Who asked?”

While an understandable thought, there would probably be a slew of social media posts gossipping about her injury the next time she got seen in public with a giant plaster on her face.

Best to just let people know ahead of time.

A highly upvoted comment on the Singapore subreddit joked that the space for the glass door was too small.

They were taking a jab at the time in 2016 when she was asked about whether young Singaporeans did not have children because they were not getting HDB flats early enough.

Bizarrely, Mrs Teo replied, “You need a very small space to have sex.”

She has since regretted the remark, saying in a 2019 interview that it was meant as a “private joke”.

Other than a glass door, Mrs Teo previously also had trouble when she first navigated onto TikTok due to an apparent online doppelganger of hers on Uncle Raymond’s videos.
