Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange, The New Player in Jurong East
Why have one bus interchange, when you can have two?
From 26 November onwards, residents in the west will find themselves all aboard the hype bus with the new Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange that’s set to open at the end of this month.
Located along Venture Drive in Jurong East, the new bus interchange will be connected to Jurong East MRT station and Jurong East Bus Interchange through fully-sheltered linkways.
A pedestrian overhead bridge will also be built – and don’t worry, it is fitted with lifts – for those who think climbing staircases is equivalent to scaling Mount Everest.
The new interchange will be managed by Tower Transit Singapore, which already operates several interchanges – including Bukit Batok Interchange, Clementi Interchange and Boon Lay Interchange.
Now, of course, do note that this isn’t the Jurong East Bus Interchange (that is always under construction), but another interchange altogether.
And it’s not just a simple bus interchange.
Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange’s Facilities to Aid Accessibility
Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange has been designed to be more accessible for those who are mobility-challenged – with barrier-free entrances and a priority queue zone with seating at all boarding berths.
New features will also assist both senior citizens and families with young children – for example, wheelchair accessible toilets, changing rooms and baby care rooms for parents.
All of these rooms have auto-sliding doors controlled by touchless sensors, as well as audio cues which will play to alert when the doors open and close.
For the rest, the bus interchange includes a commuter care room – which according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA), provides a quiet and calming space. In other words, an introvert’s paradise.
If you’re thinking that staff amenities have been forgotten, let me stop you there. All staff have access to separate toilets especially for workers, as well as a cleaner’s room and a staff lounge.
New Bus Services for Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange
We’ve got Bus 83 and 85…but have you heard of 870?
No, you haven’t – because it’s new. In conjunction with Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange’s opening, a new bus service – Service 870 – will be introduced to connect residents in Tengah new town to key amenities in Jurong East Town Centre.
Also commencing on 26 November, Bus 870 will stop at a number of different locations, including Jurong East Central, Bukit Batok West Avenues 3 and 6.
Meanwhile, existing bus services 78 and 160 will also operate out of the new interchange. Along with these route changes, Service 160 will no longer operate at the Jurong East Bus Interchange.
I know if you don’t live in the west, these will confuse you. Just know that there are new routes lah.
Information on these changes will be available at all relevant bus stops, bus interchanges as well as on LTA’s website. Commuters can also approach staff from the relevant bus operators for assistance.
“We seek commuters’ understanding that our bus operators may require some time to familiarise themselves with the operations of the new bus interchange,” LTA said on their official website.
Additionally, they added that to ensure smooth bus journeys for the commuters, necessary changes might be made. Until then, LTA and the respective bus operators will monitor the situation closely.
