Well, we’re here to clear up a simple misconception that many might have about the state of the US presidential elections.
Yes, you’re right that Joe Biden endorsed Kamala Harris after announcing his withdrawal from the presidential race. However, the endorsement does not mean that Harris automatically becomes a presidential candidate.
The simple explanation is this — the Democratic party must first nominate Harris as the presidential nominee, before she can face Donald Trump, the Republican party’s presidential nominee, in the presidential elections.
You can watch this video to find out more about why Joe Biden’s endorsement of Harris does not mean that Harris is automatically in the presidential race:
Presidential elections in the US work differently from those in Singapore, so try not to get confused lah, hor?
However, on Friday (2 Aug), Harris’s position in the presidential elections went beyond a mere endorsement from Joe Biden — the 59-year-old finally secured the Democratic party’s presidential nomination, meaning that she’s now officially up against Trump in the presidential race.
Harris was the sole candidate on the ballot and managed to secure the presidential nomination from nearly 4,000 party convention delegates.

With that, she’ll be the first Black and Asian American woman to secure a major party’s presidential nomination — it’s quite a milestone.
Harris went on to share the news on X (formerly known as Twitter), sharing that “[t]his campaign is about people coming together, fueled by love of country, to fight for the best of who we are.”
I am honored to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. I will officially accept the nomination next week.

Suffice it to say, Harris is ready to hit the ground running lah.
Harris is also in the final stages of choosing her running mate, who will head for a string of campaigns across seven crucial election states alongside Harris.
Huh? Running mate is simi?
Well, the same way Harris was Biden’s running mate, she too needs a running mate now that she has been confirmed as the Democratic party’s presidential nominee. Harris’s running mate will also be the vice presidential nominee.
For now, we’ll wait and see who Harris’s running mate will be lah.
