Updated on 2 September 2019, 7:00 p.m., with a new media release by KFC. This includes the extremely unhealthy IG-worthy images of the dish and its name.
Have you ever looked at a waffle doused in maple syrup with a generous topping of whipped cream and thought, “Yeah, this needs some fried chicken”?
If you have, I’m concerned, but I also have good news for you.
KFC introduces Chicken & Waffles
KFC Singapore is launching their new Chicken and Waffles on 4 September 2019.
We heard that Chicken & Waffles are a popular combination, so we put a twist on our classic — the Original Recipe chicken fillet freshly served with a Belgian waffle on your plate.

In a Facebook post, the fast-food outlet announced it would be adding the popular breakfast combination to their menu.
More Info About the Dish
KFC has just released more deets about the dish, and if you’re like BuffLord95 who calculates every single calorie that goes into your mouth, then please skip this.
If not, here’s an image of the dish, aptly named “Waffle Double Down”:
According to KFC, “it’s a hearty eat with a bunch of delicious stuff sandwiched between 2 glorious chicken fillets. All meat, no buns. Many renditions have been introduced over the years and KFC aficionados are always asking for its return. After a year since its last run, the KFC Double Down is back! Original Recipe fans, this one’s for you. It’s a Double Down like never before – a savoury sweet mix, with Original Recipe Chicken chicken fillets that’s sure to please.
“The Waffle Original Recipe Double Down has a piece of thick Belgium Waffle, that’s crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside; drizzled with creamy maple mayonnaise, between two succulent Original Recipe chicken fillets! One bite into it and you’ll be greeted with the signature savoury flavour of Colonel Sanders’ secret recipe of 11 herbs & spices, followed by the sweet and soft doughy texture of the Belgium waffle. This irresistible flavour combination is further elevated with the delectable flavours of the maple mayonnaise.”
According to Goody Feed…eat at your own risk.
An American creation
If you’ve heard of this delicious-but-incredibly-unhealthy combo, that’s because it’s a popular breakfast dish in America.
It originated in the 1930s in soul-food restaurants.
This is what it looks like.
Yes, I know. Your mouth is ready but your heart is scared.
As evident from the name, Chicken and Waffles is a combination of sugary waffles drenched in maple syrup served with pieces of fried chicken.
Like most foods in America, it’s incredibly sweet and usually comes with a side of diabetes.
Singapore’s savoury variation
Here though, it seems like it’s more of a savoury dish, with a drizzling of what looks like a béchamel-style sauce over a Belgian waffle.
They’re also using their “Original Recipe Chicken Fillet”, so you can be assured of its trademark KFC taste.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to have a bite of this delectable-looking dish.
Last year, KFC America introduced Chicken and Waffles and their products sold out within two weeks.
If the queues at Jollibee are anything to go by, KFC’s latest item with sell out in Singapore within hours.
