Kids Ordering Food in 4 McDonald’s Outlets in Mandarin Will Get a Free Happy Meal This Weekend (16 – 17 Feb)

We’ve all come across some insanely creative marketing campaigns recently.

For example, a telco gave $50 for every $3, an organization created a fake online store to spread awareness and a freaking website forces people to download their app to read their full trashy articles.

It takes a lot of creativity, resources and guts to carry out these marketing campaigns, and I applaud them, especially that freaking website.

But nothing comes close to this latest one that is way beyond creative.

It’s ingenious.

Though maybe, just maybe, it was inspired by a certain girl called Jovina #justsaying

Order a Happy Meal in Mandarin & Get a Free Happy Meal

Xin Zhong Wen (新中文) is a tuition centre that specialises in Chinese lessons for Singaporean students between the age of 4+ to 12.

It’s run by an academic director that has 15 years of experience in MOE and has three locations in Singapore, with all of them in shopping malls.

The centre focuses on improving young Singaporeans’ Mandarin so our kids won’t go to China and said “打包” (beat up the tasty paus) when they want to buy takeaway.

And for some reason (pretty sure it’s not for publicity, pretty sure it’s not for publicity, pretty sure it’s not for publicity…), they have an “event” called Project 开心点 (translation: Project Open Heart Dot) this weekend that is, for the lack of a better word, creative.

Get a kid, who must be 12 and below, to order a Happy Meal in Mandarin in these four McDonald’s outlets this weekend (16 and 17 February 2019, from 11:00 a.m. onward) and he or she would receive one Happy Meal for free:

  • Jem (next to Jurong East MRT Station)
  • nex (next to Serangoon MRT Station)
  • Great World City (next to Zouk MRT Station. No lah kidding this great mall hasn’t next to any MRT station)
  • United Square (Next to Novena MRT Station)

Just so you know, Xin Zhong Wen’s outlets are located at Westgate (which is also next to Jurong East MRT Station), nex and Great World City. And United Square is a mall primarily for kids.

The goal is to “encourage kids to practise their Chinese outside the classroom.”

How It Works

Actually, I don’t know because I’m above 12 and I don’t like Happy Meals.

But chances are you’ll have to ask someone there, whether it’s the McDonald’s staff or just anyone from Xin Zhong Wen there.

Now, of course you’re wondering: what’s the catch?

Apparently, there isn’t anything. In fact, you don’t just get a free Happy Meal: they will also be giving a voucher for a free Mandarin lesson, not in Yishun Primary School or Yishun Chinese High, but in Xin Zhong Wen.

Or if you want to, you can download their guide to ordering Happy Meal in Mandarin and get the voucher, too.

See? I told you. It’s not a marketing campaign.

Anyway, it’s only for the first 1,000 Happy Meals, so 你们最好他妈的快手快脚。啊你酱厉害会读华文啊,给你一个赞!
