Phase 2 is just around the corner, but it may have come a little too late for some businesses.
Non-essential businesses were ordered to close back in April, and by then, many businesses had already suffered massive losses due to a lack of customers.
Then the circuit breaker rules were imposed, dealing the final blow to many of these companies.
Now, one by one, businesses are announcing their closures even as the country reopens and the economy restarts.
KidZania S’pore Has Closed for Good & Won’t Be Reopening After CB Measures Are Lifted
KidZania, the interactive indoor city for kids, is shuttering for good after four years in Singapore.
The company announced the move in a Facebook post on Tuesday (16 June).
In their post, the company said it would not be reopening its doors upon the lifting of circuit breaker measures and other social restrictions.
Back in April, KidZania closed its popular theme park in Sentosa in accordance with governmental guidelines for non-essential businesses during the circuit breaker.
Even though the country will enter Phase 2 in a few days, tourist attractions like KidZania will not be permitted to open.
So, after four years in the country, KidZania has decided to close down for good.
“We’ve had the pleasure of being here for 4 years. We’ve had the joy of entertaining and educating 1 Million Kids” they said.
“We thank you for joining and helping us build a billion memories. ZanK-U and good-bye.”
For those who don’t know, KidZania is an interactive indoor theme park where kids can try out different careers like journalism and firefighting and learn through role-play.
The 81,000 square feet kid-sized City comes with buildings, paved streets, vehicles and even a functioning economy.
According to KidZania, children here can learn about the inner-workings of a city and how to manage money.

Most Outlets Around The World Closed
KidZania has 29 facilities in 22 countries worldwide, including locations such as Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Manila, according to The Straits Times.
But they’ve had to close all its facilities due to the coronavirus outbreak, except those in South Korea and Japan.
The company has not elaborated on reasons for its closure.
Goody Feed has reached out to KidZania for comment.
8,663 Businesses Closed In April
According to Mothership, a staggering 8,663 business entities closed in April 2020, reportedly the highest in years.
And things could get worse.
See, the government implemented certain measures to help dying businesses during the circuit breaker, like wage subsidies and temporarily freezing loan repayments.
But the circuit breaker has ended, which means several firms will have their wage subsidies cut from 75% to 25%.
And loan moratoriums have ended, so businesses will have to cough up some cash.
The country is reopening, sure, but the huge loss in revenue has simply been too difficult to recover from for some.
Let’s hope that business picks up for the struggling companies that will reopen during Phase 2.
