15 People Suffered Food Poisoning Symptoms After Consuming Dishes from Popular Seafood Stall at Holland Close

Anyone who has suffered from food poisoning will tell you that it’s not exactly a pleasant illness.

Unlike the flu, where you just stay in bed all day watching shows on Netflix, when you have food poisoning, you stay in bed all day watching Netflix but have to visit the bathroom 20 times to expel your insides.

It can feel like everything inside you, including your vital organs, is trying to escape your body.

That’s why we have to be careful about the food we eat outside, as evidenced by a recent incident at a popular seafood stall.

15 People Suffered Food Poisoning Symptoms After Consuming Dishes from Kin Hoi

The Ministry of Health (MOH) and Singapore Food Agency (SFA) are investigating a mass food poisoning incident involving a seafood stall at 6 Holland Close.

15 people experienced gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming food from Kin Hoi between 28 March and 15 April.

One of the cases was hospitalised but has since been discharged, according to ST. The authorities were notified after yet another incident which took place on 19 April.

The SFA has ordered Kin Hoi, registered as Meetup @ 352 on its food licence, to suspend its food business operations from Tuesday (20 April) till further notice.

SFA has also prohibited Kemono, a business partner of Kin Hoi, from preparing and serving all menu items, including online orders, to Kin Hoi.

Kemono provides food preparation and cooking services for Kin Hoi’s online delivery orders, the authorities explained.

The food is prepared in a separate facility from Kemono’s own food business.

Kin Hoi’s Response

In response to the incident, spokesman for Kin Hoi said it had closed its stall immediately after it was informed of the cases.

The spokesman added that all affected customers have been contacted and that Kin Hoi is working closely with the authorities in the investigations.

“We view hygiene standards as paramount and have followed all protocols strictly… Internally, we are also tracing and checking the supply chain”, he said.

Food Handlers at Kin Hoi Required to Re-attend Food Safety Course

In addition to the suspension of operations, all food handlers at Kin Hoi will be required to re-attend and pass the Food Safety Course Level 1 before they can resume work as food handlers.

The seafood stall is also required to clean and sanitise its premises, disinfect food preparation surfaces and floors, and ensure good hygiene maintenance of wash basins.

The SFA reminded food operators to practice good food and personal hygiene, and said it will not hesitate to take action against errant operators.
