In a literary and simplistic sense, postmodernism mixes and matches conventional genres while layering popular narratives with allusions.
The result is more often than not, something mind-blowing, altogether new and yet simultaneously familiar experience.
This too can be said of what Kit Kat will be unleashing on Singaporeans come 8 April 2019 till 14 April 2019.
April Fools’ Day Post
On April Fools’ Day, Kit Kat Singapore teased us with this post on their Facebook page.
The caption read:
Chilli crab and mantous with your Kit Kat?
Kit Kat fans, we heard you! Believe it or not, we’re releasing a limited edition flavour for those who love our signature local dish – Chilli Crab! Tag a friend who loves Chilli Crab or Kit Kat as much as you do!
It wasn’t cryptic, for it clearly alluded to one of Singapore’s famous dish, the chilli crab.
But that was not all, for it appeared that Kit Kat was to release a limited edition Chilli Crab Kit Kat for all chilli-crab-cum-Kit-Kat-lurvin’ Singaporean.
But the savvy ones who’ve seen the post would no doubt have taken it with a pinch of salt, for it was uploaded on 1 April, none other than April Fools’ Day itself.
It could have just been one of the many corporate April Fools’ jokes making the rounds this season.
Not a joke; It’s real
Thankfully for us though, Kit Kat followed up with a confirmation yesterday and everyone (except BuffLord95, who prefers protein bars) at the Goody Feed office rejoiced.
In no uncertain terms the post read:
Do you know what? The Chilli Crab is for real! Kit Kat is releasing two other die-die must-have local flavours – tap on the image to reveal what they are now!
Available at Kit Kat Chocolatory pop-up store from 8th – 14th April 2019, VivoCity Level 1 Concourse.
Which is to say that the Chilli Crab Kit Kat is real alongside with “two other die-die must-have local flavours”.
In case you can’t see the image, here it is blown up.
Yes, folks, the Singapore Chilli Crab, Kopitiam Breakfast and Salted Egg Yolk Kit Kat will all be for sale at the Kit Kat Chocolatory Pop-Up Store at VivoCity level 1 concourse from 8 – 14 April 2019.
Unable to contain my excitement, here’s a short write-up on what they may potentially, probably, hopefully, and ultimately taste and look like.
Singapore Chilli Crab Kit Kat
A typical two-bar Kit Kat not in the familiar brown but deep red reminiscent of the chilli crab gravy. The first bite is invitingly crunchy, but in this context reminds one of a Sri Lankan crab shell. Yummz. The wafer is interspersed with delightful egg and crab meat, full of umami, juxtaposed with nutty choco-delight, that leaves your craving for more. But like two gongs on a crab, this Kit Kat is still only two-bar, nothing more nor less.
Kopitiam Breakfast Kit Kat
This is the perfect combination of kopi in all its delightful permutation, si, gao, siew dai, boh, as well as a showcase of how flexible eggs can be in whichever sunny-side up, scrambled, hard or the soft-boil way you want it to be.
Because “Kopitiam Breakfast” is all-inclusive, I’m inclined to think there’s a fragrant Nasi Lemak pandan rice-grain somewhere amongst the wafer. Between the valley of the two Kit Kat bars, I find a strand of delightful yellow Mee Rebus mee too.
Salted Egg Yolk Kit Kat
Tastes like Salted Egg Yolk, which is the gravy of choice for all ages. What else? Like Fried Lizard meh??
Disclaimer: This post was clearly not sponsored by Kit Kat. But the writer loves Kit Kat and cannot wait to try them all.
Also, this post is tongue in cheek, so please don’t come after me.
