The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has had a rather busy couple of weeks.

Last week, the drug enforcement agency hit the headlines after it seized 14.1kg of heroin in a raid.

It was their largest heroin haul since 2001, when they found a record 14.9kg of heroin in a single operation.

Along with the other drugs found in the raid, the items seized amounted to an estimated $2 million.

Despite the remarkable discovery, it wasn’t even their most noteworthy find this month.

Knives, Parang & Baseball Bat Were Also Found in a Drug Raid in Balestier

Five suspected drug offenders were arrested in raids across several locations this week, CNB said on Tuesday (17 Nov).

The offenders – three men and two women – are all Singaporean and aged between 19 and 34.

One of the raids was carried out at a location near a hotel in the Balestier Road area on 16 Nov.

CNB officers arrested a 25-year-old man, a 24-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman.

The man reportedly put up a “violent struggle” to resist arrest, and “necessary force was used to subdue him,” CNB said.

In the raid, officers found a packet containing about 1g of Ice, and a bottle of liquid suspected to contain gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB).

But that wasn’t the most interesting thing they found.

Officers also recovered a Karambit knife from the scene, and later found two watermelon knives, a parang, and a baseball bat, as well as more drugs when they searched his vehicle.

Was this man moonlighting as a ninja or something?

For the unacquainted, the Karambit knife is a small Indonesian curved knife resembling a claw.

And a watermelon knife is, well, a knife to cut watermelons.

Though I’m guessing fresh fruit wasn’t what this man had in mind.

Another Operation on Same Day at Somme Road

The drug enforcement agency carried out another operation earlier that day near Somme Road.

According to CNA, officers apprehended a 34-year-old man and found three packets containing about 37g of Ice and 11 Ecstasy tablets in his possession.

They then escorted the suspected drug offender back to his hideout in the same area, where they found a truckload of other drugs, including:

  • 20 packets (1.276kg) of ‘Ice’
  • 11 packets (342g) of cannabis
  • 14 packets (46g) of ketamine
  • 161 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets
  • 18 Erimin-5 tablets
  • 6 LSD stamps
  • 1 bottle of liquid possibly containing GHB

$14,000 was also recovered from the man’s hideout.

Follow-up Raid at Yishun Ring Road

With Yishun desperately trying to shake off its bad-boy image, this drug raid certainly won’t help.

On the following day (17 Nov), CNB conducted a follow-up operation at a residential unit at Yishun Ring Road.

Officers arrested another 25-year-old man and found an Erimin-5 tablet and 20 ‘Yaba’ tablets, as well as 10 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets and $4,250 in cash in the man’s vehicle.

Investigations into the drug activities of all five suspects are ongoing.

CNB said the total amount of Ice seized is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 750 abusers for a week.
