A South Korean taxi driver faces public backlash after allegedly making sexually inappropriate comments to a Thai tourist.

The incident has raised safety concerns among travellers visiting the country.

The driver used a translation app to communicate with the passenger. He asked inappropriate personal questions including “Do you have a boyfriend?” and “Why aren’t you married yet?”
The cabbie then offered to help her find employment. “It’s not hard. You just need to clean rooms,” he told her.
After the woman mentioned her destination was Busan, the driver suggested he could drive her there himself. He then made a sexually explicit comment: “If you don’t have money for the fare, you can pay with your body.”
The most frightening moment came when the driver stopped the car and continued talking to her. Before reaching the destination, he gave her his phone number and asked when she would return to South Korea.
She posted the video with a warning that read, “Be careful when taking taxis in Korea.” She wrote in the caption: “Korea is a safe country and has many good people, but don’t assume it is 100 per cent safe.”
South Korean Netizens Condemn Driver’s Behaviour
The video quickly spread across social media platforms, amassing nearly 900,000 views. South Korean netizens expressed outrage over the driver’s conduct.
Many condemned the behaviour as “a disgrace to the country.” Users noted that such incidents unfairly damage the reputation of other taxi drivers in South Korea.
Several South Koreans left apologetic comments on the TikTok account. One user wrote: “As a Korean, I’m sincerely sorry.”

Another added: “You came to Korea expecting good memories, but now you’re leaving with a traumatic experience. As someone who loves Thailand, I’m truly sorry.”
