Korean Drama & Variety Shows Now Halted Filming as New COVID-19 Wave Hit the Country

According to ST, filming production for Korean dramas and variety shows has been halted because of a new wave of Covid-19 infections.

Running Man and Master In The House has temporarily stopped production to safeguard the health of the cast and the staff.

K-drama production house, Studio Dragon, has also announced that they’ve stopped filming for the time being.

This means that the broadcast schedules of Missing: The Other Side and Flower of Evil may be affected.

Fans eagerly awaiting the romance drama Record Of Youth, however, do not have to worry since all the episodes have already been filmed.

M Countdown is to be stopped temporarily, CJ ENM announced, and other affected titles include KBS’ Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol and Zombie Detective.

As for the Korean drama To All The Guys Who Loved Me, filming has resumed after one of its supporting actors tested positive for Covid-19 on 19 Aug 2020.

South Korea’s Second Wave Of Covid-19 Infections

As of the time of writing, South Korea has 18,265 confirmed Covid-19 cases with 312 reported deaths.

For the past few days, the country has been reporting 3-digit new cases daily and the South Korean government warns that if things continue, they’ll be forced to elevate to the “Phase 3” of social distancing measures.

South Korea’s phase 3 social distancing measures sounds similar to Singapore’s circuit breaker measures where schools and businesses will be urged to close.

On 24 Aug 2020, the authorities in Seoul, for the first time ever, ordered the citizens to wear masks at all times, both indoors and outdoors.

Their first outbreak was caused by a cult which delayed contact tracing and testing until the situation exploded.

And ironically, the latest Covid-19 wave was caused by another religious group, a church whose pastor decided it was a good idea to lead thousands in a protest against the government.

Investigations by authorities found that 875 recent cases were linked to a church in South Korea which is led by a radical pastor.

Some of them had attended a rally and 176 infectious were linked to the rally, including 7 South Korean police officers.

It was estimated that South Korea’s latest wave of infections could possibly infect up to 7,000 people by early November 2020.
