When you’re a parent, your child is the apple of your eye no matter whether you’re a common man or a celebrity.
And so, when Mediacorp actor Leon Jay Williams saw how a Chinese article attacked his beloved 7-year-old daughter, he had to bite back.
Mediacorp Actor Leon Jay Williams Slams Article That Calls Her Daughter Ugly
On 17 Mar 2022, Leon Kay Williams, an actor and singer, took to Weibo to share a Chinese article that called his seven-year-old daughter, Harper Ann Williams, “unbelievably ugly”.
Harper was so ugly, the article claimed, that even a “princess dress can’t save her”. The writer wasn’t careful with what he wrote, and strong words of condemnation could be found peppered within the content.
The original article has since been removed from Weibo.
A netizen also told Leon that the writer of the article isn’t a journalist, but a marketing account trying to hit KPI.
“Brother, he is not a professional reporter, he is just a marketing account to hype and earn traffic because he is scolded for not being able to hit KPIs. Don’t really care too much! Harper is so beautiful, don’t be angry, these marketing accounts have no morals.”
Leon, however, wasn’t appeased and took to his social media platforms to pen down his thoughts.
Unethical Reporters
Calling out the article, Leon says the article has no other aim but to cause hurt and pain to his family.
While he might have let such articles go in the past, he felt that the direct attack on his seven-year-old and the “terrible words used to described her appearance” were taking things too far.
He emphasises that he wasn’t referring to the trolls, as every public figure would have some, but established websites or journalists who have “no qualms on hurting innocent children”.
He urges professional journalists to spend more time researching and writing facts instead of wasting time on personal opinions, especially if it’s meant to “hurt or slander” others.
When it comes to between his job as an actor or father, he’ll choose being a father every time.

A majority felt that Leon should move on with life, spending time with his beautiful daughter instead of wasting time and energy on people that don’t deserve it.
Well, you know what they say. While Singaporeans tend to disagree with each other on many things; however, when cats, dogs or children are hurt, you’ll see us standing together as one united people against the perpetrators.
