Well-Known S’pore Dart Player Died at Age 32 After 2nd Stroke in 2 Months

Life is much more fragile than we think.

Many of us carry this notion that death and disease is only something that happens when you get older, making us feel invincible in our youth.

But we’ve repeatedly been shown that this is not the case.

No matter how young you are or how precious your life is to your loved ones, it can be snatched away from you in an instant.

Well-Known S’pore Dart Player Died at Age 32 After 2nd Stroke in 2 Months

Tan Xin Yong, a local darts player, died on Monday (21 Sep) after he suffered a second stroke.

The 32-year-old had been recovering from a stroke he suffered in July when he suffered a second, fatal stroke, reported Lianhe Wanbao.

Despite undergoing emergency surgery, Tan remained in a coma for 17 days before passing away.

Six months ago, Tan was given a warning about his poor health when a health report revealed he had high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol.

Driven by his family’s encouragement, Tan tried to lead a healthier lifestyle by exercising regularly and changing his diet.

Sadly, these adjustments came too late.

On 30 July, Tan had bought some takeaway from McDonald’s for his wife at Thomson Road, according to Lianhe Wanbao.

On the drive home, the 32-year-old suffered a stroke after a blood vessel burst in the right side of his brain, leaving the left side of his body paralysed.

His elder brother managed to ascertain his location through WhatsApp and immediately called for an ambulance.

Tan underwent a successful emergency operation and was scheduled to be discharged.

But that never happened.

The 32-year-old ended up suffering a second stroke, which ended up killing him.

Darts Champion in 2018

According to AsiaOneTan was a well-known darts player and had participated in many competitions abroad.

He won the Dartslive Open 2018 medley singles category and came in third in the team challenge category of the 2019 Phoenix Summer Festival held in South Korea.

A good friend and former teammate of Tan’s said he became passionate about the sport soon after picking it up, and never looked back.

According to his older brother, Tan was a mellow and generous person who regularly enjoyed buffets and mookata with friends.

Warning Signs of Stroke

Strokes can range from mild weakness to debilitating paralysis, which is why every second count after an attack.

Seeking fast treatment could reduce the brain damage caused, and could even save the patient’s life.

Here are some warning signs to look out for:

  • Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.
  • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech.
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or lack of coordination.
  • Sudden severe headache with no known cause.

Carrying out the F.A.S.T test can also help you determine if a person has had a stroke.

F—Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A—Arms: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S—Speech: Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T—Time: If you see any of these signs, call 995 right away.

Lifestyle changes can also prevent you from getting a stroke, especially if there’s a history of it in your family.

Try eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and avoiding smoking and drinking too much alcohol.
