The Will of A Singaporean

When we were taught the idiom “where there’s a will, there’s a way”, some people probably dismissed it as merely a cliché inspirational quote.

Not this woman, though.

She appears to be a resident on the tenth floor of Block 506 at Serangoon North Avenue 4. And when she needs her car washed, she doesn’t let her unit’s high altitude deter her.

She finds a way.

On 6 September at 3.25pm, the woman connected a hose to a water outlet on the tenth floor, the length of which rivals that of a firefighter‘s hose.

She extended it all the way down to the ground floor where her car was parked, and proceeded to clean the vehicle.

Not The First Time

Apparently, this wasn’t the first time the woman had pulled such a stunt, according to a nearby resident by the name of Kenneth.

Kenneth took pictures of the incident and reported it to Stomp, a platform that supports citizen journalism.

“This is not the first time I saw this happen. They were washing their car on August 30 too,” said Kenneth.

“My neighbour is also unhappy with the way they have been using the water. It is really a waste of water and it may even be dangerous for residents if the water pipe is not being managed well.”

“You can just pay $1 to use a spray gun to wash your car at the nearby multi-storey carpark, so why do they need to do this?”

Stomp has reached out to Ang Mo Kio Town Council for more information, and is currently awaiting feedback.

Opinions on the Incident Vary

Netizens’ views on the incident are quite polarized, judging by the comments on Stomp.

Some people find the act rather irresponsible, stating that the public space used was not intended for car-washing. Plus, it wasn’t even a legal parking spot.

Some are worried of the hazard if the hose ever comes loose and falls off.

On the other hand, some commenters were able to find humour in the matter.

A 34YO "old-virgin" S'porean was desperately looking for a boyfriend and surprisingly, she really found one online. But the intentions of the man will make you cry. Prepare tissue paper to watch this video based on real events:

Well, at least the water usage is reflected in her own bill.

Verdict Will Out

What do you think? Would you own a firefighter’s hose and go through all the hassle for the alleged +10HP for your car?

Nevertheless, it would appear some offences were already committed, particularly in terms of illegal parking.

Guess we’ll hear from the town council soon enough.
