Accident Between Lorry and Bus on PIE Left 12 People Injured and A Major Jam

With much of the nation making their way down to places they need to be, the morning rush hour on Singaporean expressways can be a tough, congested challenge one needs to face everyday.

Oftentimes, accidents occur as well on the busy roads.

Accident Between Lorry And Bus On PIE

This morning (25 Feb), a lorry collided with a bus on the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) at about 8am.

The incident took place on the expressway route towards Tuas at the Jalan Besar exit.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they received a call for assistance at around the time of the accident.

From pictures that have been shared, the lorry appears to have crashed headfirst into the back of the bus, leaving a bad dent in it that caused some panels to come loose.

It left 12 people injured in the crossfire, who were later taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. As of now, there are no mention of any fatalities or how severe the injuries inflicted were.

A tweet by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) later warned of heavy congestion on the PIE all the way until the Kranji Expressway, most likely brought about by the accident.

Lorry Workers Injured

The Straits Times reported that the bus driver of the involved vehicle said his bus was carrying about 20 people, none of whom were injured, fortunately.

On the other hand, the lorry was ferrying workers. One worker who had been sitting at the back of the lorry commented that some of his colleagues had been injured and sent to the hospital thereafter.

It’s still unclear as to how exactly the accident happened right now as investigations are still ongoing.

Here’s a video of the collision’s aftermath:

Second Expressway Accident This Week

This follows a huge accident involving the pile-up of 10 vehicles along the East Coast Parkway (ECP) expressway, a la blockbuster movie style, just two days ago on 23 Feb, Tuesday. It left three people injured.

Traffic accidents like the tragic Tanjong Pagar car crash and the Toa Payoh hit-and-run incident that happened in this month alone serve as a reminder to us not to let our guards down whenever we’re driving.

While you may be rushing to get to work or school in the early morning, do remember that safety is always the top priority and stay safe on the roads.
