As the number of Covid-19 infection cases continues to remain low, more are heading out to rest and relax after a hard day at work.
For those who are not staying home guessing the imposters while playing Among Us, they are out catching up with friends over a meal.
As more people are eating out, some food establishments find it hard to cope with the snaking queues outside their restaurants. So much so that certain establishments have been fined for flouting safe distancing measures.
In some cases, the establishment flouted the rules more than once.
Mexican Restaurant Ordered to Shut for 20 days Due to Breach in Safe-Distancing Measures
As shared by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) today (23 October 2020), Mexican restaurant, Los Amigos, has been ordered to close their place for 20 days as they have been found breaching the safe distancing measures.
The restaurant located at Circular Road has been closed since 21 October.
Flouted Rules for the Second Time
This is not the first time Los Amigos has been ordered to shut due to breaches in safe distancing measures.
Back in July, the restaurant was fined $1,000 and told to close for 10 days.
The reason?
For having more than five people in a group to dine at their restaurant.
The URA mentioned that despite the penalty given, the restaurant was still found with multiple breaches of the safe distancing measures.
So what rules did the restaurant flout this time round?
On 10 October, officers found a group of eight in the restaurant, as well as different groups of customers standing less than 1 metre apart from each other.
Three Other Food Establishments Faced Penalties
Aside from Los Amigos, three other restaurants also breached the safe distancing measures rules and faced penalties.
The three food establishments are Forum Seafood Village Restaurant, Xiang Signature and Kanpai 789.
Both Forum Seafood Village Restaurant and Xiang Signature were fined $1,000 each for allowing groups of more than five people into their establishments.
In addition, 13 individuals were also slapped with a fine of $300 each as they were gathering in groups of more than five around Boat Quay.
As for Kanpai 789, the restaurant faced a fine of $2,000.
The restaurant located at Robertson Walk was given the penalty as it did not ensure that customers were 1 meter away from each other.
Similar to Los Amigos, this isn’t the first time Kanpai 789 was being penalised.
Back in April, the restaurant was fined $1,000 as their staff were not wearing their masks properly.
Past Instances of Restaurants Flouting Rules
If you experience some sort of déjà vu moment while reading this, that’s because similar incidents happened in previous months too.
Some even tried different ways to hide their breaches.
Back in September, a restaurant at Orchard Road was found to be serving alcoholic drinks in teapots to 13 patrons.
In addition, 23 F&B retailers were also found to have breached the COVID-19’s Safe Management Measures (SMM) during the enforcement checks conducted by officers from the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment (MSE) on 12 and 13 September this year.
