Girl in Woodlands Accident Wakes Up from Coma After 12 Days in ICU

Unless you’ve been on a social media fast the past couple of days, you probably know about the Woodlands accident which landed an 8-year-old girl in a coma.

A red Audi, which was speeding along Woodlands Road, rammed into the back of the van, which was attempting to make a U-turn at the time of the accident.

An 8-year-old girl was sent flying out of the van’s window while the front of the Audi was totally wrecked.

In total, 7 people were involved in the accident and four were sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

Doctors had proclaimed that the next few days were “critical” for the girl’s recovery and over a hundred people had donated S$39,000 to her.

Well, if you’re one of the many who wish this little girl would wake up soon, there’s been an update from the girl’s father.

Girl in Woodlands Accident Wakes Up from Coma After 12 Days in ICU

On 3 Nov 2020, Lovelyn’s father, Eric Tan, shared a positive update on Lovelyn’s condition on Facebook.

He shared that while Lovelyn has yet to wake up, the doctor said that her condition is improving, with the swelling in her brain reducing and blood clots gradually dissolving.

It was added that she will have to stay in the intensive care unit (ICU) for a longer period of time for observation.

Then, about five hours later, Lovelyn’s father dropped a second Facebook post.

This time, to tell the world that his daughter has finally woken up.

While not many details were revealed, many were relieved at the news, including Misshopper Boutique, who shared the heartwarming news on her Facebook page.

Not sure who MisshopperBoutique is? Well, you might know her as S-Hook Sis.

Brother-In-Law Can Now Rest Easier

The driver of the van was Mr Chen’s brother-in-law.

Having been arrested after the accident, the driver was subsequently released and is now recuperating at home, though he may be summoned for investigations in the near future.

Mr Chen does not blame his brother-in-law for what happened and, in an interview with 8World, said that his brother-in-law must already be feeling the guilt of what he has done.

“Nobody wants such a thing to happen,” said Mr Chen.

Fortunately, with Lovelyn waking up, the brother-in-law might rest a bit easier knowing he didn’t cause the death of his niece.

During the time of the accident, the van had attempted to make a U-turn, even though the Audi was going straight.

It should have allowed the latter to go first.

A case can also be made for the Audi’s neck-breaking speed, which could have contributed to its failure to brake in time.
