Malaysian Man Helps Wife Fight Depression Even After She Tried To Stab Him

Mental health is an issue that is possibly still doesn’t get enough attention.

There’s still a heavy stigma surrounding mental illnesses.

Someone who’s mentally ill isn’t just “crazy”. In the same vein, someone suffering from depression or anxiety isn’t “just making it up”.

Telling someone to “get over it”, “others have it worse”, or “don’t be so weak” is not a valid cure.

Plus, just because there are no visible symptoms doesn’t mean it’s not there.

In fact, the symptoms can be very visible if one pays enough attention.

People struggling with mental health often need love and support from those around them, but not all are ready to help.

After the possible Worst Boyfriend of the Year, it’s time to award the Best Husband of the Year Century to Najmi Nawawi.

Love Knows No Bounds

If you need proof of the existence of true love, look no further.

This Malaysian banker, Mr Najmi, embodies unconditional love and support in its entirety.

In a post on Facebook, he detailed his experience caring for his wife Husna.

Husna was diagnosed with depression 4 years ago.

She even had suicidal thoughts that she revealed to the doctor.

Before long, she was further diagnosed with anxiety and had panic attacks.

According to Najmi, she often felt like she’s useless and poor, that everyone hated or took advantage of her, and that no one gave her enough attention and love. In once incident, she even tried to stab Najmi with a pair of scissors.

Us Against The World

Like many people who discriminate against the mentally troubled, Najmi stated that several individuals even saw her plight as punishment for not practising religious practices enough.

Here’s a thought: Being the most religious person in the world is useless when you’re this cruel to others.

Najmi’s love and support for her never wavered, no matter how tough the going got.

What if your wife tried to stab you during a panic attack?

Many husbands would probably start to turn the other way. But not Najmi.

He showed us that true love truly knows no bounds by sharing her troubles and supporting her every step of the way towards recovery.

Destigmatising Mental Issues

Mr Najmi stated that he wishes to shed more light on the issues of mental health and remove the stigma surrounding it.

The post currently has more than 23,000 shares and 5,000 comments, filled with people pouring in their support for or sharing their experiences of mental health.

Anyone, even those smiling brightly in photos, could be suffering from depression.

He also said that depression is not a disease of the attention seeker.

Every depression you brush off or invalidate is a step backwards from giving the mentally ill the support they need.

On that note, identifying with depression and anxiety lightly on Facebook for attention and laughs is nowhere better. You’re just discrediting people with actual mental illnesses.

“Someone needs to speak up,” Najmi wrote. “Do not stop supporting your loved ones. They are really in need of your help.”

Let’s all be like Najmi.
