When you think of KFC, you think of one thing:
Yes, this beautiful old man with that majestically white beard. Just one look at this strapping man will make you-
Reader: Uh, I usually think of fried chicken.
Oh, right. Yes, yes. Uh… me too. Everyone thinks only of chicken when it comes to KFC, and definitely not saucy Colonel Sanders.
We usually go there to have a quick bite, but have you ever thought about proposing to the love of your life at a KFC joint?
Man Called Cheapskate For Proposing In KFC, Now Big Companies Are Offering To Sponsor Their Wedding
Because that’s exactly what one South African man did.
Bhut’ Hector recently proposed to his girlfriend at a KFC in South Africa.
KFC South Africa later managed to find a video of the proposal and tweeted it out asking for help from netizens to identify the couple.
They forgot, however, that the internet is not full of nice, well-meaning people.
One journalist came across the video and shared it with the caption:
“South African men are so broke, they even propose at a KFC (laughing emoji) (laughing emoji).. they have absolutely no class, I mean who proposes at KFC (laughing emoji) #KFCProposal”.
Yes, he’s a prick.
But He’s An Attention-Grabbing Tweet
Fortunately, the journalist’s retweet went viral and caught the attention of big companies including KFC who responded to the tweet, saying they were looking for the couple.
Then, Woolworths, a grocery store, later tweeted, saying they would be giving the couple a 15k Rand voucher (S$1400).
But it didn’t end there.
Free diamond rings, shoes, and clothes
The couple started receiving free gifts from numerous big companies who were angered by the journalist’s insensitive tweet.
Billy Dlamini, who is the CEO of Billdore Jewellery, said he wanted to give the couple matching wedding rings from his company worth 45,000k Rand (S$4100).
They also got free phones from Huawei, free clothes from Puma, and even a free 5-night holiday!
Some companies even offered to sponsor their wedding.
Tailors offered to make the couple’s wedding outfits and netizens offered to pay the tailors so that they didn’t lose revenue.
Coca-cola said they would supply the soft drinks and Audi said they would drive the couple to their “honeymoon destinations”.
But no one could top the contribution of a South African Bank called Standard Bank, who offered to clear up to 300,000 Rand (S$27,500) of the couple’s loans!
We didn’t want to steal the happy couple’s shine but since some of you have asked, we’d like to offer them a clean slate.
Over & above imvula mlomo, we’ll clear their personal loans up to R300k & if they’re with us we’ll clear it all! No need for skoloto! #GoodToGo #KFCProposal

No one expected so much love from the internet, a place full of mean trolls.
Let’s applaud these companies for their beautiful gestures of goodwill and wish the lucky couple a lifetime of happiness!
