Birthdays are a celebration of us turning one year older, and hopefully, one year wiser. It is also a celebration of life and for us to thank our parents for bringing us into this world.
Unfortunately, this was clearly not the case for a 22-year-old Northern Indian man from Mukarampur village when he decided to sink his birthday gift from his parents into the Western Yamuna Canal because he was angry.
His gift was something I’m sure many of us would have been thankful for – a high-performance BMW M3.
The Details
Known as Akash, the man was said to be upset because his parents didn’t get him the Jaguar he wanted. As a result, he threw a fit and filmed a video of him pushing his car into the water on August 9.
Other reports, however, mentioned that he forwarded the video to his parents instead.
In other videos taken by witnesses, a few locals could be seen trying to retrieve the car, which was reported to cost between 37.8 lakh and 45.2 lakh rupees (SGD$73,000 and SGD$88,000) in India.
For your info, a new M3 in Singapore, which is no longer being sold in Singapore, cost only about SGD$400,000…for ten years of use. And that was back in 2011.
Akash was also supposedly seen helping the locals.
Eventually Returned To Land
The car was eventually retrieved a few hours later but not without the help of the police, divers and an earthmoving machine.
A police officer reported that Akash was initially given a Toyota Innova by his in-laws, which his parents then sold in order to purchase the BMW M3 for him, but he simply demanded something else – a Jaguar.
It was also reported that his parents had shown some medical reports to prove that Akash was suffering from some psychiatric issues.
His Father’s Side
Despite all that was reported, Akash’s father maintains that the car only went into the water because his son was trying to swerve to avoid an antelope. He then claimed that Akash had never once demanded a Jaguar, even going on to add that they had two cars at home, a BMW and a Subaru Swift.
Whether or not his father was telling the truth or simply lying to himself that his son would never do such a preposterous thing to his own parents, we would never know.
What we do know is that netizens around the world are going nuts after the video became viral, and they are all accusing him of being ungrateful.
While it is true that our parents may not necessarily know what we want for our birthdays every single time, and sure, we may have even dropped hints about what we may want. However, that doesn’t warrant us the right to be ungrateful when they have already given us the greatest gift in the world.
And that is the gift of life.
