There are many reasons why parents would get annoyed at their children.

Sometimes they donโ€™t do their homework, sometimes they make a mess around the house and refuse to clean up, and sometimes theyโ€ฆstare at you.

Ugh. A child staring at you has got to be one of the most disrespectful and outrageous behaviours out there.

It canโ€™t go unpunished no matter what.

Man Gets Aggressive Towards His Stepson For Staring At Him

That must have been what was going through this manโ€™s head when he grabbed his 8-year-old stepson by the neck and slammed him into a clothes pile, in order to punish him for staring.

Yes, you read that right the first time. Staring.

Whatโ€™s this? 1990s Ah Bengs?

So, hereโ€™s what happened.

The 28-year-old man was making himself a drink one day, and he spotted his stepson looking into the kitchen. He got irritated and asked the boy what he was looking at, before walking over to grab him by the neck and lift him up.

His wife shouted at him upon seeing what was going on, and the boyโ€™s nine-year-old sister screamed, which led the man to slam the boy into a pile of clothes.

Itโ€™s unknown when this happened, whether itโ€™s in Yishun or in Yishun Ave 11. Or maybe not in Yishun at all I donโ€™t know.

Boy Was โ€œBehaving Like A Gangsterโ€

When his wife asked him what had happened, the man said that his stepson was โ€œbehaving like a gangsterโ€ and staring at him.

Hmm, I wonder who seems more like a gangster here. The one who stared innocently, or the one who grabbed and lifted the other by the neck?

The boy cried after the incident and was taken to KK Womenโ€™s and Childrenโ€™s Hospital, where he was found to be uninjured.

According to CNA, the incident occurred on 3 December last year, and the boyโ€™s aunt called the police past midnight on 4 December. She told them that her sister and brother-in-law were fighting and that the house was in a mess.

Sentenced To Four Monthsโ€™ Jail

The man was sentenced to four monthsโ€™ jail in the State Courts yesterday (10 September 2019) after pleading guilty to one charge of ill-treatment of a child. He cannot be named due to a gag order.

The prosecution asked for at least four monthsโ€™ jail, saying that this was warranted by the manโ€™s โ€œdangerous actionsโ€.

According to The New Paper, Deputy Public Prosecutor Regina Lim told District Judge Sarah Tan that โ€œ(It was) only fortuitous that there was no physical injuryโ€.

Lim also informed the court that the man has spent time in a juvenile home โ€“ for theft and driving without a licence.

The man was unrepresented by a lawyer, and he had nothing to say when the judge asked him to speak.

For mistreating the boy, he could have been jailed up to four years, or fined up to $4,000, or both.
