When you’re a parent, the children under your care rely on you for comfort and protection.

So, what happens when they very person supposed to protect you from harm ends up violating you?

Well, that’s exactly what happened to three girls who lived with their stepfather.

Molested 3 Teenage Stepdaughters After Marrying Mother

The offender, who cannot be named to protect the identities of the victims, met the girls’ mother through work and married her around the end of 2013.

The girls were in Malaysia at the time, and immigrated to Singapore to live with their mother.

The family of five shared a HDB flat in the northeastern region of Singapore, according to TODAYonline.

The couple used the master bedroom, while the three girls shared another bedroom and slept in a bunk bed.

Around a year or two after moving in, the 52-year-old began touching his stepdaughters inappropriately.

The youngest girl, who was in Primary 4 at the time, said she was in her bedroom using her phone one day when her stepfather lay beside her. The bedroom door was partially open.

He touched her breast for around a minute, which made her nervous. But because she was scared and unsure of what to do, she pretended that nothing was happening and continued using her phone.

Since her mother had just married the man, she was worried that bringing this up would cause them to break up. So, she decided to keep her distance from him.

The man’s next target was the middle child, who was 12 at the time. She was sleeping in the master bedroom when he touched her.

Unsure of how to bring the issue up and fearful that she would be blamed for making false accusations, the young girl kept quiet about the molestation.

Then, when she was in Secondary 1, the man would often touch her inappropriately whenever he gave her pocket money.

The girl continued to ask for his help because he helped her buy food and cigarettes.

The oldest girl also testified in court that her stepfather molested her on several occasions.

She said he would tap her buttocks to wake her up, which made her uncomfortable.

Then, on her mother’s birthday, when she informed the man that her mother had just returned home, he grabbed the girl’s breasts over her volleyball jersey from behind.

She told him to let go and tried to escape, but he held on for a few seconds until she shouted for help.

When her mother asked why she needed help, the girl said the man had touched her breasts and only then did he let her go.

When her mother pursued the issue, the girl said nothing had happened because she was afraid it would lead to a quarrel between her mother and stepfather. She also thought she would end up being sent to Malaysia.

Family Initially Wanted to Give Him a Chance

The prosecution stated that the girls had chosen not to tell their mother what happened until 2017.

In fact, the mother only found out about her husband’s misdeeds after overhearing her three daughters confiding in each other one day when she was having an argument with the man.

The four of them then met at a prata shop without the man to discuss the issue. They decided to give him a chance in the hope that he would change his ways.

But, of course, this never happened.

Man Maintains His Innocence

In Feb 2019, police officers were called to the man’s flat after receiving an unrelated complaint about excessive noise.

The man was drunk and complained that the girls did not respect him. It was only then that the mother reported the acts of molestation to the police.

On Monday (22 Mar), the man was sentenced to two years and eight months in jail. He was also given 18 weeks’ jail in lieu of nine strokes of the cane, as he’s over 50 and cannot be caned.

The man, however, maintains his innocence, saying he did not commit the crimes. The 52-year-old intends to appeal his conviction and sentence.

The man and the girls’ mother have since divorced.
