Are you a Foodpanda fan? Meaning you order it day in day out for all three meals like one of those stay-home TV addicts.
And maybe you love seeing the delivery man thank you, exchange coins and when he goes, stare at his retreating back creepily.
If you can’t tell, I totally meant it.
BUTÂ did you know this?
Your favourite Foodpanda actually has a pretty ‘dirty’ clause in their regulations: Food Panda delivery service can actually cancel your order without your approval, and charge you for what you never got.Â
And someone apparently got it.
Facebook user Panda Inblack published a derogatory post against popular food delivery service Food Panda on August 25. It has since gained traction with over 66 likes and reactions and 449 shares so far.
Included are screenshots of the conversation he had with Food Panda customer service helper Sean Nair.
And there you are, thinking that everything’s all right in the world when this happened.
And you reach out to the customer service…
Here, he starts to get agitated. For good reason too. Imagine being really hungry and waiting for your food to come, only to realise that the delivery service had cancelled your order for ‘no reason’, and to top it all there’s no refund.
Talk about tilt.
So there you are, thinking, I’ll prove you wrong.
He screenshots his call history to prove that there were no such calls.
And this is the reply he got.
And it’s like talking to a brick wall. A wall that replies back.
The Food Panda assistant tried to justify the missing calls, but our dear Panda Inblack wasn’t having any of it.
So in the end, all you could do is escalate
Baffled by the ridiculous turn of events, he’s all like ‘Sean Nair, GTFO!’ and requests to speak to Food Panda’s higher ups.
Sean Nair must have been at his wits’ end too, and he agrees to direct our hangry Panda to the higher ups. However, it would take 24 hours.
Being hangry, Panda Inblack gets really suspicious and asks for a phone number.
Unfortunately, it’s against their policy to give out numbers.
Panda even settled for an email, but Sean Nair stuck with his ‘I have arranged a callback for you’. To be fair, he did try to send an email.
It obviously isn’t what Panda had in mind though.
What do Netizens think?
Quite understandably, they were enraged by Food Panda’s blatant disregard for the customer’s welfare.
And there were some that suggested the rider himself had a part to play.
And there were some that suggested the rider had something in it.
Thoughts
I consider myself a pretty ardent supporter of Food Panda, because they are the go-to when I’m sick of Macs, KFC and Pizza Hut, and am lazy to walk 3 minutes to the nearest coffee shop to get my lunch.
But this time, I’m really on Panda Inblack’s boat (hope it doesn’t sink).
Seriously, if I was waiting for my food to come and I receive a notification telling me that my order has been cancelled and there’s no refund?
Food Panda, you really got to have more empathy. Sure, if the customer fly aeroplane and really wasn’t there to collect his food, it’s effectively his fault.
But the least you could do is to follow up with a few more calls right? I mean, it’s money. Money. The customer has paid for his order, so there’s no real reason why he would pangseh you, right?
For Food Panda’s sake, and for all future customers’ sake, I hope that no such thing happens again.
At least now we know Foodpanda can cancel your orders without refund if you don’t pick up their call.
