Be careful of what you do outside because someone could be filming you to “make you famous”.
This was the hard lesson that a man learnt when he went on a racist rant at the grocery store at Blk 651 Jurong West St 61.
Triggered that he was not allowed to buy a packet of milk, he launched into a racist rant, and his actions were all caught on camera and uploaded online.
Needless to say, it went viral immediately with 15k shares within 2 hours.
Police Now Investigating Man For Racist Remarks And Breaching Covid-19 Measures
On 18 Apr 2020, it was reported that the police is now looking into the incident.
The man had wanted to buy a packet of milk from the grocery store.
However, the store’s supervisor had refused to let him enter as he was not wearing a mask.
Triggered, the man started abusing the employee.
“The man took offence and hurled racist remarks and vulgarities at the supervisor. He also attributed the source of the Covid-19 virus to the Chinese people.”
He also claimed that he had forgotten to bring his mask out and only wanted to “buy one thing”.
Managed To Establish His Identity Within Three Hours
The police said that they’ve received several reports regarding the video on Saturday (18 Apr 2020).
And within three hours, the officers managed to establish the identity of the man and track him down.
Racism is a serious thing, the police add, and they’ll take all of such incidents seriously.
“The police take very seriously acts that can threaten racial harmony in Singapore,” it said, stating that investigations are ongoing.
“Any person who makes remarks that can cause ill-will and hostility between the different races will be dealt with swiftly and firmly.”
Possible Penalties The Man Faces
For saying things with the intent to wound the racial feelings of any person, he can be fined and/or jailed up to three years.
For intentionally harassing a person, he can be fined up to $5,000, jailed up to six months, or both.
For not wearing a mask, first-time offenders can be fined $300. A second-time offender faces a fine of $1,000.

On 18 Apr 2020 alone, close to 200 people were fined for not adhering to safe distancing measures.
As for those who are wondering why the shop doesn’t “give chance”, just know that businesses are also being monitored really closely and will be fined if caught breaking safe distancing rules, just like this nasi lemak outlet at CCK.
So let us all keep to the rules and help to make Singapore a better place, yeah?
While this time, it might have resolved for the better but still, instead of making people famous online, why not just report errant people like this dude through the One Service App instead?
For one, it’s nicer and two, you’re not at risk for doxxing anybody.
