What’s the stupidest thing you’ve done when you were bored?

For me, I honestly can’t remember, but I think I may have gone exploring janitors’ closets in the toilet when I had nothing to do. Don’t judge.

Some people do just about anything when they’re bored, really.

From staring at the ceiling to find little dots scattered around and making a pattern out of it to more infuriating things like pestering your mother by repeating the same word over and over again.

Of course, there are normal things to do when bored like watching a drama or listening to music, but when normal gets boring too… pissing your cat off it is!

There’s just something in you that compels you to do stupid things out of boredom, even though one part of you is telling you that you’re probably going to regret it.

It happens to the best of us, and it looks like this one guy found a way to relieve his boredom, but not without landing himself a one way trip to jail.

Burn It Up

In October last year, one Loh Hsien Aik got drunk and was looking for something fun to do.

A deadly combination, this: drunk and bored.

The 33-year-old was strolling around Block 221 Boon Lay Place after having a few cans of beer and somehow thought it would be a good idea to play with some fire. Because what better way is there to cure boredom without some heat?

So, he took out his lighter and set fire to the seat of a motorcycle in the open-air carpark nearby and watched as it went up in flames. How… amusing.

Except, It Got Bigger Suddenly

Satisfied, Loh walked away, then turned back after a while only to see that his little act of arson was worse than he thought.

The fire had spread to the motorcycle next door, AND also a BMW car. Not just a regular car, no, a BMW car.

Despite the trouble he caused, Loh probably thought his night just got more exciting and far from boring, so he just stood there enjoying the burning spectacle.

Truly an electrifying night it must’ve been.

Caught Red Handed

Luckily, a customer who was eating at the coffee shop nearby noticed the fire and called the police.

Firefighters from the Singapore Civil Defence Force were deployed to the scene.

By the time they arrived at the scene, Loh was gone and the fire had spread, destroying five motorcycles and the BMW car.

Only one of the motorcycles could still be fixed and used, but every other vehicle involved was burnt to the point where it could not be operated any longer. This translates to over $100,000 of damages.

Loh was arrested the following day and was just sentenced to 30 months of prison yesterday, for he had committed mischief by fire with the intent to cause damage and another charge.

See, this is what doing stupid things out of boredom can do to you sometimes.

For setting vehicles on fire just to cure his boredom, Loh now has to deal with the very thing he was avoiding, Good luck to him for he’s gonna be bloody bored, having plenty of time to kill in those 30 months of jail.
