Man Tasered By Police At Everton Park Allegedly Robbed A Man By Rubbing Chilli Powder In His Eyes

I don’t know about you but only two things come to mind when I think of the word “taser”.

One being cartoons and the other, The Hangover.

Ah, Alan Garner. A crucial contribution in the three-part series of The Hangover.

Not too long ago, a man was infamous for putting the Singapore Police Force’s taser to the test.

‘Cause baby now we got bad blood.

Feeling the same confusion from your much-dreaded math lesson? We’ve summarized the happenings below:

Allegedly Tipsy Man Tased By Police Officers At Everton Park After He Lunged At Them

Long story short, the man was allegedly drinking in broad daylight on 9 June, Sunday. In addition, he allegedly made a scene which affected others in the vicinity and kicked two wooden benches at Everton Park, according to Channel News Asia.

Now that you know what exactly went down, you must be wondering, “who exactly is this daring champ?

Man in question

Alcohol, as we know it, has intoxicating capabilities. This explains why people drink it to help them “man up”, which also explains why 25-year-old Murugesan Ragupathiraja had the guts to challenge a group of police officers.

Walking past a couple of them in the MRT Station is enough to make me feel jittery though I’ve not committed any crime. But somehow, I always feel like I’m guilty when they’re around. Strange.

It has been reported by CNA that he has since been charged with attempted assault of a police officer, causing annoyance to others, as well as kicking of public property (the benches, which amounted to S$911.40 in damages).

But wait, there’s more to him

With reference to CNA, it turns out that Ragupathiraja was facing ongoing charges – seven to be exact.

When his alleged drunk adventures occurred recently, the 25-year-old Indian national happened to be on court bail as said by the Police in a statement released on 11 June, Tuesday.

Prior to the happenings at Everton Park, Ragupathiraja was charged for the following reasons:

  • Stealing S$160, an ATM card and a bag from a man
  • Rubbing red powder, which is believed to be chili powder, into the eyes of his victim
  • Use of improper language on an officer inside a Certis CISCO auxiliary police van
  • Spitting at an auxiliary police officer
  • Slapping both sides of an auxiliary police officer’s face

That is one hell of a gutsy man.

Set to return on 9 July

It is unsure of Ragupathiraja’s outcome as of yet but he will be attending another court hearing on 9 July, Tuesday.

Should he be guilty of inconveniencing the public while drunk, he could receive a jail term of up to six months, and/or a maximum fine of S$1,000.

In addition, the 25-year-old could be jailed for up to four years and/or fined if he’s found guilty of assaulting a police officer and preventing him from doing his job.

With that said, think twice before venting your anger on public property because you could potentially end up with a jail term lasting two years and/ or a fine, like Ragupathiraja.

If you mess with the police, one thing’s for sure – you won’t be getting any happy ending.
