SBS Transit told 8world that CCTV footage showed the man was with four other people at the time.

According to the operator, four of the five people in the group allegedly entered the station without tapping their cards at the fare gates.

SBS Transit said entering without tapping in amounts to fare evasion and is an offence. It added that it is still looking into the matter.

The Public Transport Council states on its website that fare evasion on buses and trains is an offence. It lists a S$50 penalty for non-payment of fare and for not tapping in or out with a smartcard.

For MRT and LRT rides, commuters are expected to tap in at the entry fare gate and tap out at the exit fare gate using the same card or device.

Police Investigations Are Ongoing

For now, the case is still under investigation.

No charges have been reported, and the identities of the people in the group have not been publicly released.

The incident is being treated seriously because throwing objects near train tracks is not just a “play stupid games” situation. On an LRT platform, even a small object can become a safety issue very quickly.
