On the list of crimes that most humans will never understand, animal abuse is pretty high up.
When we see a little dog, cat, or any pet for that matter, we’d want to pet it or cuddle with it.
But for a small group of people, the first thing they’d want to do is hurt it for their own enjoyment.
We don’t know why animal abusers do what they do, but until we catch them and put a stop to their disgusting acts, the poor animals under their care will continue to suffer.
And thankfully, it appears that one viral abuser may soon get his just desserts.
Man Admits to Torturing Pet Poodle While It Was Bounded with a String
Last year, a series of sickening videos showing animal abuse went viral on social media.
It showed a man torturing a pet poodle in different ways, with the abuser even smirking in one of the videos.
Netizens were understandably horrified and reported the case to the authorities. The abuser was later identified as Clement Chia Tian Xiang, a 42-year-old Singaporean man.
Yesterday (8 Sep), the man pleaded guilty to four charges under the Animals and Birds Act of cruelly torturing an animal.
Two other charges will be taken into consideration for sentencing, which will be on 7 Oct.
Tied Up, Punched, & Beat Poodle With Hanger
Chia had bought the dog for S$2,000 in 2016. Named Leslie, it was around four years old at the time.
Sometime between October 2016 and November 2017, Chia began abusing his dog. Chia’s cousin, who had filmed some of the incidents, was fined in July for failing to stop the abuse.
In one instance, Chia had bound the dog’s mouth shut with string and beat it with a closed fist multiple times. He even hit the dog with a hard plastic hanger several times on its right hind leg and right front leg.
He also held the poodle by one of its legs and held it off the ground, suspending the poor dog in mid-air before striking it repeatedly with a hanger.
The poodle was struggling and could be heard whimpering while this was happening.
In one video taken by Chia’s cousin, Chia bound the poor poodle’s legs and forced it to stand upright in front of a fan, saying “One more time you down, I slap you ah.”
The poor dog, shivering, fell down, but Chia pulled it back up, saying “Slap you means I’ll slap you, stand up.”
In another clip that Chia had recorded himself, he posed and smirked at the camera before pulling the dog up by its ears and repeatedly punching its face.
What is wrong with this guy?
His offences were discovered in July 2020 when six of these videos were shared by multiple Facebook users.
Dog Was Given Away in 2017
Fortunately, the dog is no longer under Chia’s care, as he gave it away to his ex-girlfriend in late 2017.
When his horrifying videos were playing in court, Chia reportedly held his head down.
If guilty of cruelly torturing an animal, the 42-year-old could be jailed for up to 18 months, fined up to S$15,000, or both.
Offenders can also be disqualified from owning an animal for up to 12 months.
Yep, I think that’d be a good idea.
