Hong Kong Man Caught Placing Used Mask On Unused Chopsticks, The Restaurant Has Responded

The internet is outraged.

And yes, while the internet is outraged most of the time, this time it has a really good reason to be.

Forget deliberately coughing on others or selling face masks at ridiculously high prices, this one man has angered people all over the globe by… eating fried rice.

Reader: *gasps* How could he do such a th- wait that’s it?

Well, no. He ate fried rice… without his face mask.

Reader: *gasps* Oh my god that sounds like the wor- uh, wait, doesn’t everyone eat without a face mask?

Ok, I’ll just get to the point:

Hong Kong Man Caught Placing Used Mask On Unused Chopsticks, Netizens Unamused

A picture of a man in Hong Kong eating fried rice while using his phone has been circulating on social media.

Why? Because he did this:

In case you couldn’t spot it, the man in the photo had placed his used mask on top of the chopsticks beside him.

Yes, now you understand the outrage.

If you’re the Hong Kong man in the picture and you just happen to be reading this article, here are some other places you could have placed your used mask:

  • your lap
  • your pocket
  • your bag
  • over your head like a bandana
  • in the dustbin
  • literally anywhere else

According to Mothership, the man was slammed for his “anti-social” behaviour during such a trying time.

As you know, the Covid-19 coronavirus has already infected more than 100,000 people worldwide.

Just yesterday, Hong Kong confirmed four more confirmed cases, taking the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Hong Kong to 113.

An employee?

According to The Standard, some social media users have speculated that the offending man in the photo is an employee of the eatery – Cai-Tu-Ya, a Japanese joint.

However, the restaurant has come out and quashed those rumours, denying that the man worked at the restaurant.

The Japanese eatery posted an apology on Facebook, saying “We bear unshirkable responsibility. We apologise for the incident and we will review it seriously”.

They also assured diners that they had disposed of all chopsticks and tissue napkins at the affected branch and the restaurant had been fully sterilised.

The restaurant also pledged to improve staff training to ensure they follow cleaning guidelines and anti-epidemic policies to prevent similar incidents from taking place again in the future.

Though one wonders why it’s the restaurant and not that inconsiderate man who’s apologising.

Maybe it’s because they should’ve caught on to his actions and reminded him about being socially responsible?

We understand that it is not physically possible to eat while wearing a mask, but there is also no need to completely remove it.

What you could do instead is starve to death to prevent infecting others.

Or, if you really want to eat, leave it on your lap and put it back on after your meal.

Just make sure you’re wearing it the right way, of course.
