The 60-year-old man who assaulted former actor Huang Yiliang at a hawker centre will not be charged. Police have given him a 12-month conditional warning instead.
The Singapore Police Force told Shin Min Daily News the warning was issued on 3 August, after investigations were completed and the case was considered with the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
He had been accused of voluntarily causing hurt and intentional harassment. Mothership reported the outcome on 27 August.
The Blow At Circuit Road
Huang, 64, runs Old Fisherman, a seafood stall at Circuit Road Hawker Centre.
On the evening of 10 May, police were called to Block 79A Circuit Road. Officers found that a 64-year-old man had been assaulted by a 60-year-old man. Huang was taken conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and discharged the same night.
He said he was hit on his right ear from behind as he stepped out of his stall, and fell forward. Videos of him on a stretcher circulated online.
The attack came days after a heated public argument with the neighbouring chicken rice stall owner. Huang alleged the 60-year-old was that stall owner’s husband.
He Is Still There
Huang later told Chinese media he would keep operating at Circuit Road because business was stable. He said he wanted to keep his distance, while adding that the relationship might still improve one day.
A 12-month conditional warning means the man is not going to court for now. If he stays out of similar trouble for a year, that is usually the end of it.
A hawker centre argument that ends with an ambulance is already more drama than anyone queued for crab bee hoon. The police have now drawn a line under this round.
