Sometimes, we may be unaware of how our acts may potentially inspire others in different ways.
Like one such woman, who paid $4,450 instead of $44.50 to a hawker in Tampines.
After taking note of this incident, a man decided to participate in a 4D bet using the number 4450.
Little did anyone know that this number would be a lucky one.
First Time Using Paynow
On Thursday (6 April), a woman purchasing several dim sum and dumpling products from a stall at Block 201 Tampines Street 21 coffee shop accidentally paid them a value in the four figures.
The stall owners, Mr Chen Deming (Hanyu pinyin) and Ms Zhang Mingfang (Hanyu pinyin), were shocked to receive that amount as they only started the stall about a month ago.
Ms Zhang could not believe the woman had paid them $4,450 after seeing the transfer.
But it turned out that the woman had indeed transferred the wrong amount.
Two hours later, the woman returned to the stall, asking for a refund.
The original amount that was to be paid was $44.50. The woman explained that she had made that mistake as it was her first time using Paynow.
Betting on 4450
Upon reading about the incident above, a man told Shin Min Daily News that he felt drawn to this number.
Clearly, this affinity was not a joke, as the man successfully bet on the 4D number “4450” and won $1,000.
On Sunday (9 April), Singapore Pools disclosed the numbers that had won the prizes in the draw.
4450 was one of the numbers that won the starter prize.
A starter prize means that for every $1 bet, $250 is paid.
Not the First Time Someone Paid the Wrong Amount
Back in January, a stall in Admiralty also received an amount from a customer that was too good to be true.
Xiao Mei Ban Mian mentioned on their Facebook page that an elderly man had paid a considerable sum of money to their Admiralty outlet that was “abnormal.”
The customer was supposed to pay $4.50 but accidentally keyed in $450 and was refunded $445.50.
The refund process was rather tedious as the man used NETS QR code to transfer the amount via Paylah. Hence, no names or phone numbers could be uncovered.
They contacted NETS, which worked with DBS to refund the man.
Eventually, the man turned up at the stall, and the issue was resolved.
Luck Is in the Air
In February, a lion dance troupe was hired by the owner of a fashion store in Woodlands, who invited nearby residents and shopkeepers to join in the festivities.
At the end of the performances, the troupe used various materials to form the number “0770”.
Some watchers got extremely lucky using this number and permutations for 4D bets.
The manager of a nearby hair salon told Shin Min Daily News that although she hadn’t watched the performance, her friends had invited her to join the 4D bets.
Using a permutation of “0770”, she lucked out and won $8,000.
It’s no wonder people love 4D so much.
