It is the ‘unemployment season’ again, as thousands of secondary and JC students finish their national exams.

Some are travelling while some are busy finding jobs.

“No experience cannot find job. But no job cannot find experience”.

Relatable anybody?

Some who were lucky managed to land themselves part-time jobs paying at a good rate of $8/hr.

These are often admin jobs and require part-timers to handle paper work.

Recently, some students managed to find jobs paying at $10/hr.

But before you start getting interested, let me warn you: it’s tough work.

Remember the MRT collision last month?

If you were living under a rock (apparently many were), 17 MRT stations will be closed to allow for maintenance work. Shuttle buses are running at the same fare as MRT services.

Seeing as to how thousands rely on the MRT to commute between places, many were affected by the closure.

SMRT hired crowd marshals at $10/hr to direct the crowds to alternative transport.

They work 10-hour shifts and have 45 min meal breaks.

We all know how feisty commuters can get when faced with a train breakdown, let alone a complete full-day closure.

According to TODAY, commuters were firing questions at the marshals, who were not specially trained for the job.

They were quite overwhelmed by the number of questions being asked, and how specific they were.

People wanted to know how to get a specific place (eg Science Centre), but the crowd marshals were only responsible for ensuring they find alternative transport.

Many of those asking questions were tourists or foreign workers who were confused as to why the station is closed and how to find alternative transport.

They had little to no resting time, not even for a sip of water.

Kinda sucks uh, especially in this weather.

Kudos to the 400 staff working to ensure everything works smoothly!
