Resident in Marsiling Can Only Cook 3 Times A Day Due to Complaints From Neighbour

Some neighbours descend from the skies while flashing smiles and bringing tasty cakes to your door, but others rise up from the fiery depths of hell to make your life as miserable as possible.

In the last few years, we’ve heard enough horror stories of bad neighbours to make us thankful for the ones who completely ignore our existence.

Instead of greeting us with friendly smiles, some of them place bloody pig’s ears on our shoe racks and even fling faeces at our doors.

But this neighbour does something far, far worse.

She… cooks a lot.

Resident in Marsiling Can Only Cook 3 Times A Day Due to Complaints From Neighbour

Okay, so it doesn’t sound as bad as finding faeces on your door. But according to to her neighbour, it’s made life rather difficult.

The complainant, a 61-year-old housewife, told Shin Min Daily News that her neighbour often cooked curry, fried fish, chicken wings, and other dishes every single day.

Both women live at Blk 26 Marsiling Drive.

The woman, Mrs Wang, complained that her family has to keep their windows closed to prevent the “pungent smell of oily smoke” from wafting into their apartment.

If not, the smell would spread to their living room and bedrooms.

This has gone on for five to six years, the woman said, adding that she has complained to the town council multiple times, and even lodged reports with the police over 10 times.

But nothing was resolved.

Consequently, both parties went down to the Community Mediation Centre (CMC) to settle the dispute, and eventually came to a rather odd agreement:

Ms Cooks-a-lot can only cook at three specified periods in the day: 10:30am–12.30pm, 4:00pm–6:00pm, and 8:00pm–10:00pm.

Mrs Wang claimed that her neighbour broke the agreement just two weeks later.

She added that her pregnant daughter is worried about the effect of the smoke, and that their apartment has become intolerably hot because they have to keep the windows closed.

Neighbour Says She Has to Cook for Family of 8

Before coming to a conclusion over any dispute, of course, it’s always good to hear both sides of the story.

Mrs Wang’s neighbour, who declined to be named, explained to Shin Min Daily News that she has to cook for her large family, including her husband and six children.

“Why is it wrong to cook in my own home? I have a lot of family members, which is why I need to cook for a longer time,” she said.

Contrary to Mrs Wang’s claims, the neighbour said she has kept to the agreement, adding that her family has often had to wait for breakfast since she could only start cooking at 10:30am.

And the Fights Continue

Mrs Wang said that when her neighbour cooked outside of the specified periods recently, she lost her temper and started yelling at the family from her unit.

Her neighbour then stormed up to her unit and allegedly started banging on her door and shouting at the family.

Unsurprisingly, a heated argument ensued.

If you’ve ever lived with other human beings, you’re probably aware that in order to prevent all parties from going insane, compromise is the key.

This seems to be one of those instances where neither party is wrong, as both have their grievances and reasons.

Hopefully, they’ll figure out how to resolve this beef they have with each other so they can finally stop boiling with rage.
