Some call her “MBS Lady“, some call her the “Badge Woman” but regardless of her flowery nicknames, we know one thing: She’s not going to get away with this.
MBS Woman Faces New Charge of Not Wearing Mask Again; Now Faces 22 Charges
Phoon Chiu Yoke, 54, the lady who demanded a badge from a safe distancing ambassador was back in court yesterday (24 July). This time, she was charged with a fresh but similar offence while she was allegedly on bail – not wearing a mask at Mandarin Orchard Hotel on 25 June 2021, around 3pm.
In total, Phoon currently faces twenty-two charges. Most of which are similar charges that she was specifically told that she should not re-offend.
Phoon’s bail of S$12,000 – raised from the previous S$8,000 – was revoked by a district judge. She is set for another pre-trial conference tomorrow (26 July 2021).
If charged, she could be jailed for up to six months or fined up to S$10,000. She may also be jailed and charged as well.
If the judge decides she is a repeat offender, her jail term and amount fined could be doubled as well.
Who is This Woman and Why is She Affiliated to MBS?
In case you’ve been avoiding the news like the plague, the infamous MBS Lady went viral for not only refusing to wear a mask at MBS but also contested the safe-distancing ambassador by asking her if she had a badge.
A badge for what? Well, to prove that the safe-distancing ambassador is someone of authority like the police.
Watch the infamous video here:
This is not the only incident Phoon was caught not wearing a mask.
In February 2021, Phoon was captured on video for not wearing a mask in VivoCity. Another instance was at Clarke Quay Central in the last month of 2020.
She was finally charged in court for refusing to wear a mask at MBS and twenty-one other charges. Her charges included breaching of SHN on five different occasions.
Most of the charges handed to her are rather similar – the refusal to wear a mask at various locations from mid-2020 to mid-2021.
The reason behind her multiple charges of refusing to wear a mask is because she suffers from “breathlessness” and have eczema issues.
Considering how Phoon was so vocal in the video, you would expect her to be vocal in court, right?
Well, you’re right. Phoon demanded “immunity as a citizen” and an Ex-Singapore Armed Forces officer. Specifically, an Ex-Navy officer.
In fact, she used to be “kind and charitable” as well.
I wonder what changed.
If you’re thinking, “My God, Karen, it’s only a mask. Why make it such a big deal? Either way, wear masks got use meh?” Well, you should watch this video to the end:
