Situation at McDonald’s During Its Reopening: Controlled & Organised Queues Online & Offline

Today’s a day we’ve all been waiting for.

Finally, after almost 3 weeks without McSpicy and Filet-O-Fish, the Golden Arches are finally reopening their doors.

But you’ve got to wonder: would it lead to a mad rush for their food?

After all, over in New Zealand, when they ended their partial lockdown, long queues were formed at McDonald’s and KFC outlets—so much so that some outlets run out of food.

Well, if you’re still itching for a piece of McChicken, here’s an update: it’s not as bad as bubble tea.

Though it’s primarily because McDonald’s has a system in place.

Safe-Distancing Measures at Outlets

During the Bubble Tea Rush, the queue was so bad that it could’ve extended to JB and some said Batam.

However, McDonald’s patrons seem more reasonable: images posted online showed that while there are queues in McDonald’s outlets, it’s not that bad as McDonald’s has implemented strict safe-distancing measures.

And McDonald’s not just implementing safe-distancing measures offline.

Queue System in McDelivery

So you think you’d not need to queue if you opt for McDelivery.

Think again.

Go to their app or website and you’d see this:

Lest you can’t read:

Thank you for choosing McDelivery! Our current operating hours is 7:00am to 9:00pm (last order at 8:30pm).

All in the spirit of safety first, we’ve gone 100% contactless delivery and will only be accepting cashless payments.

To give our customers a pleasant ordering experience, we are using a virtual queue system to limit the number of customers accessing the McDelivery portal at the same time.

Please do not close or refresh this page as you are being placed in the queue. Thank you for your patience!

I was in queue for about 20 minutes, so suffice to say, if you really want to have a McFlurry now, you should head over to GrabFood instead.

Although you’ve got to be fast.

I just tried with my GrabFood app and there should be four outlets near my area, and a check on McDonald’s website shows that all these four outlets are open.

However, as of now, three of those outlets are “temporarily closed” (i.e. not accepting orders).

So if you’re dying for McDonald’s, here’s a suggestion: you’ve waited for three weeks, just wait for 3 more days.

Of course, you’d wonder: why is that happening?

Does everyone love McDonald’s so much?

Well, yes, maybe so, but there’s another reason: they’re now working on a reduced workforce.

Senior Workers Told to Stay Home

A few days before the shutters closed on all McDonald’s outlets last month, the fast-food giant had announced that in an effort to keep their senior workers safe, the seniors are told to stay home and would still be paid.

From then on, McDonald’s stopped takeaway and only allowed delivery.

The other reason is that McDonald’s has stopped moving staff across outlets—the very reason that could have caused them to shut down.

Moving staff across outlets is a common business practice that helps to ensure that manpower in an outlet is sufficient, so this new policy would have led to a manpower crunch in certain outlets.

So while you complain about the long queues, be it online or offline, try to be more understanding.
