Day 32 without bubble tea. I can already feel the effects. I feel angry for no reason and started to hallucinate. Camera lenses and teddy bear eyes may look like boba, but they are certainly not.

Reader: But it’s not even been five days.

What? It sure feels longer than that.

But I’m not the only one angsty from the lack of bubble tea, if you recall the GrabFood rider and PlayMade staff shouting at each other.

Lest you don’t know what I’m talking about, this all happened after the announcement that bubble tea would no longer be essential during the CB.

Which led to long queues at all bubble tea shops.

Imagine that you’re at max capacity for your work, and suddenly your boss just pushed even more saikang to you at the last minute. Except, the boss in this case is bubble tea addicts like you and I.

Reader: But you’re the one who’s experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

So anyway, bubble tea addicts caused a surge in order. 600 cups in the last hour of operations according to PlayMade’s statement.

Which led to some shouting between a GrabFood rider and a PlayMade Staff:

The GrabFood rider was arrested for public nuisance.

PlayMade’s statement regarding the incident can be found here.

Now that you’re all up to speed, I can finally talk about the main thing.

GrabFood Rider Apologised

In a Facebook post uploaded on 23 April 2020, Alvin Lee identified himself as the GrabFood rider and apologised for his actions.

In the post, he also revealed the amount of pressure and stress that everybody is in due to the amount of work, and delivery riders have to work at least 12 hours a day. He hopes that we will all learn from his mistake.

For everyone info, I’m the grab food rider that is in the bubble tea saga, I would like to take this opportunity to admit that I am also in the wrong to act like this in the public. But please understand that it is very difficult time for rider like us, we work min 12hour a day, rain or shine to bring food to you and also bring bread home. Sometime anger took over us as we over work and tire the hell out of ourself. I’m not asking for sympathy as this is what I should do in order to feed my own little family. I don’t want pin point on who is at fault because I believe both parties are under a alot of pressure and stress in ordering to fulfil those nonstop bubble tea orders after the new circuit breaker measures takes place. Sincerely I hope that all of the affected staffs and myself could just carry on with our life and earn a living for our family, times is tough now for everyone that still got to work and risk getting infected. From this mistake I hope we all learn from it and not let it happen again. Lastly, Stay safe and cheers

Most comments seem to acknowledge his bravery for publicly apologising and realising his mistake.

A screenshot of his banned account was also uploaded to the post but was subsequently deleted.

Which is to say, we can’t be sure whether he is currently banned or not, but at the time he posted (23 April, 5:03 pm) he probably was.

Speculation aside, I’m angrier at PlayMade for wasting bubble tea by creating monstrosities like the Wasabi flavoured one. And now that bubble tea shops are closed, you might as well learn how to make bubble tea.
