1 Day After BTS Meal Launch, Carousell is Still Flooded With People Selling Used Packaging

Oh gosh, it’s here. Prepare yourselves for the onslaught.

Yes, I’m talking about none other than the BTS meal, which—let’s be real—is actually just a regular McNuggets meal with special dipping sauces: cajun and sweet chilli.

Maybe NCT Dream should collaborate with a fast-food chain for a special “Hot Sauce” too?

The BTS Meal arrived in sunny Singapore yesterday (21 Jun), but it is currently only available through McDonald’s delivery or through food delivery apps so as to avoid overcrowding in their outlets once it has launched (we’re still in a pandemic after all).

GrabFood has even offered incentives for their delivery riders who deliver these meals.

(As I’m writing this, I’ve heard the BTS meal advertisement on Spotify at least three times today already. Fun times!)

As with all kinds of special launches, scalpers will be scalpers and will take any opportunity to make a quick buck off adoring ARMYs (a.k.a BTS fans). In fact, people are selling their used packaging on Carousell—

Wait, what the hell?

1 Day After BTS Meal Launch, Carousell is Still Flooded With People Selling Used Packaging

Some of the items on the e-commerce platform are going for S$10 to S$15 for a fully washed meal set and unopened sauces. I suppose that isn’t too bad, considering that the meal costs S$8.90.

Well, only if you’re fine with getting no nuggets, fries, or drink. I guess one man’s trash really is another man (or in this case: fan)’s treasure.

Two insane sellers (who are, of course, trolls) have put up the meals for an iconic S$369 and S$600 respectively. This much just for empty boxes and sauces?

No, it cannot be. I refuse to believe that that’s true.

The first seller, who priced it at S$369 has offered some very lovely perks with the meal. In fact, their BTS meal has been “sprayed with jungkook perfume and wiped with BTS official towel merch from Love Yourself tour 2017”.

Wow, I love it when my food has been doused with perfume!

Check out what else it comes with:

The “heavily used” made me chuckle.

The other seller who went for an even more ridiculous S$600 also claims to have gotten the rare and unique 10-nugget version of the meal!

Apparently, the meal was also bought from Seoul, South Korea, which obviously makes it extra special because it has been purified with the air from the land of K-pop stars.

In my opinion, this quite possibly beats the one with the Jungkook perfume spray. It’s one oppa vs hundreds of oppas. And an extra nugget.

There was one more interesting product on Carousell. A seller has listed the two special sauces at S$100, but what’s so special about them?

They weren’t made in the birthplace of K-pop, but made in the land of the free, home of the brave. That’s right: American-made Korean-inspired sauces.

The two very expensive sauces (staying true to their capitalist tendencies!) are different from the ones sold in Singapore. Most notably, they have a different recipe and the ingredients vary from the ones distributed in Southeast Asia.

“The BTS meal promotion has ended in the USA on 20 June 2021 and thus making these hard to find. Add these to your BTS collection now!”

Gosh, these people are so innovative.

BTS Meal Sold Out in 5 Minutes

According to TODAYonline, the meal was completely swiped from McDonald’s shelves in a mere five minutes, proving the power of Singaporean ARMYs. Customers who were buying the meal via McDelivery were asked to wait in a virtual queue to access the order portal.

However, some were upset after they found out that the Singapore orders did not come with the purple BTS paper bag. Instead, the normal brown McDonald’s bag was used.

No wonder the scalpers with the bag are having a field day. And oh, there’s the BTS ad on my Spotify again.

Apparently, McDonald’s Singapore did not promise any purple BTS paper bags. It’s simply not available in our country.
