It’s the start of 2019.

And everywhere you turn, be it online or offline, you see businesses offering tempting promotions.

All in a bid to get your attention.

Unfortunately, not every promotion is honest, or real.

And today, yet another scam has surfaced and revealed to be a fake.

McDonald’s Singapore Facebook Page

So we were browsing through businesses’ Facebook pages today when we came across this particular one on McDonald’s official FB page.

Here’s your chance to turn your meal into real gold.

All you need to do is to buy a Prosperity Feast between 5 to 27 Feb 2019.

Then, send an SMS: PROSPERITY <SPACE> YOUR NAME <SPACE> INV#<RECEIPT NO.> to 9753 9368.

Here’s an example: PROSPERITY DAVID INV#000020100144326

And if you win, you might just win a pair of Prosperity Nestle Wafer Gold Bars worth $868.

Eat and (possibly) win something at the same time? Sounds too good to be true.

But it is.

Now, there you are thinking, that’s the end of this post.

But nope.

Something unexpected appeared in the comments section of the golden post.

Scam McDonald’s Post Revealed At The Same Time

Here’s a closer look at the screenshot.

The post claimed that McDonald’s is celebrating its 40th year anniversary by giving away $150 worth of vouchers to “lucky winners”.

If you’re not aware yet, it’s a scam.

A pretty bad one at that.

First, they said they’re celebrating their 40th year anniversary. And they’re giving away vouchers to celebrate their past odd 40+ years of service to Singaporeans.

So is it 40+ or 40?

And look at how they capitalise the words, the grammar and the (lack of punctuation marks).

The 40 Anniversary!! McDonald’s Celebrate 40th Anniversary!! We Have Been proud and happy…

If McDonald’s social media team actually releases this post, they’ll probably be fired on the spot.

But This Event Highlights a Couple of Things

In case you didn’t know, McDonald’s has said that the post promising $150 vouchers doesn’t belong to them.

But it also shows that Singaporeans are now more careful regarding such online rewards.

One pointed out that the Facebook page is wrong.

Yes, McDonald’s in Singapore is operating out of a Facebook Page called McDonald’s. Not McDonald’s Singapore.

Plus, the fact that this man actually thought to verify with the business in question first before doing anything else is pretty awesome.

He might have just saved himself from leaking personal information to scammers.

So next time, if you’re not sure, check first.

After all, giving away $150 McDonald’s vouchers and getting an $868 gold bar at a lucky draw for eating prosperity meal sounds equally fantastic, no?
