With an increasing number of companies jumping on board the meatless bandwagon, all our favourite meaty treats are gradually becoming available in plant-based form, one by one.
This time, it’s luncheon meat.
Ayam Brand Launches Meatless Luncheon Meat
Ayam Brand, the company where most of us get our sardines and tuna from, is launching a new line of plant-based food products as a healthy and tasty alternative to Singaporeans’ comfort food.
Ayam Brand announced the launch of their new product in a media release today (4 Oct).
Called yumeatâ„¢, the hearty treat was “specially formulated for the local palate”, the release said.
Some products in the line include plant-based, meatless luncheon meat or minced meat.
Available in cans and pouches with a long shelf life, yumeat™ products are non-frozen, which means that they are ready-to-use.

This is in contrast to most plant-based products available on the market, Ayam Brand said, where thawing is required.
A Healthier, Guilt-free Treat?
Ayam Brand claims that the yumeatâ„¢ line is naturally cholesterol-free, making it a guilt-free treat as well.
The company added that their yumeatâ„¢ contains seven times more fibre, 23% less sodium, and 53% less fat compared to the average meat alternative.
“It is also Halal-certified and free from cholesterol, MSG, GMO, antibiotics, sodium nitrite, and other preservatives,” it said.

Part of a Sustainable Diet
Ayam Brand said yumeatâ„¢ “embodies an unwavering focus on responsible food production,” as it’s made of sustainable ingredients like soy and wheat.
What’s more, these ingredients are processed in a factory using renewable solar energy and electronic sensors, so as to eliminate energy waste.
“The carton boxes used by the brand are also made of 92% of recycled material,” it added.
Where, When, & How Much?
The launch of yumeatâ„¢ will begin with two products: plant-based luncheon meat, and plant-based minced meat with bean paste.
The meatless luncheon meat will cost S$2.95 for 190 grams and S$4.95 for 360 grams.
