On 24 Dec 2020, we wrote about how local celebrities were caught brazenly breaking Covid-19 safe management measures after a photo of a birthday bash went viral.
The photo, which was reportedly shared on 3 Oct, showed 13 people posing around someone holding a cake.
Those pictured included local celebrities Terence Cao, Shane Pow, Julie Tan, Jeremy Chan and Jeffrey Xu.
Well, there’s now an update to the entire celebrity saga.
Mediacorp Celebrities Who Broke COVID-19 Rules Posted Apologies on Their IG Accounts
Previously, Mediacorp confirmed that the party took place after speaking to three of the artistes involved.
They also confirmed that Sonia Chew was also part of Xu’s celebrations for his 32nd birthday.
“They deeply regret their actions. They would like to apologise for the mistake and assure everyone that this will not happen again,” Mediacorp said.
“We take this matter seriously. Safety is a priority. We constantly brief and remind our artists to adhere to safe management guidelines, both in their professional and personal capacities.”
On the night of 26 Dec, the four celebrities involved took it upon themselves to put up a public apology note at around the same time.
Sonia Chew
In her post, Chew explained that she did not know she was attending a birthday party at first.
She had thought that she was invited to have a few drinks with a small group of people.
It was only after she has arrived that she knew what the event was really about.
Nonetheless, she apologised for her actions and said it’s “no excuse” for what she did.

Shane Pow
Pow, on the other hand, didn’t give many excuses.
He merely said that he should’ve done better “as a public figure” and apologises for his “disappointing actions”.
He promises to do better in the future.

Terence Cao
Cao took to his Instagram account to admit to a “lapse in judgement” back in Oct 2020.
Admitting that he has “failed to do the right thing”, he says he accepts full responsibility for what he did and apologised for his actions.

Jeffrey Xu
Last but not least is Jeffrey Xu, an artiste managed by Mediacorp.
His apology is written in Mandarin so here’s a direct translation for our non-Chinese-speaking friends:
“Apologies!
In midst of containing a pandemic, I flouted safe distancing measures and failed to be a role model. I am deeply sorry. I would like to express my regret and guilt over my mistake.
I am very sorry for putting my friends and family through this, to have them pained and worried over me.
I would like to sincerely apologise to everyone: Sorry, I was wrong. Please forgive me.”
