Singaporeans who love crossing the border to shop and eat good food now have something else to look forward to.
A Malaysian developer, Tropicana Corp Bhd will be developing two mega townships worth over RM35 billion (S$10 billion) in Johor Bahru.
This comes as Singapore experiences a rental price hike, making it the ideal time to launch the two townships to drive growth in Johor’s market.
They will have “modern features” and be located at prime locations to attract locals, Malaysians working in Singapore and Singaporeans.
Two Mega Township
The first township, Lido Waterfront Boulevard, will be built on 163 acres of reclaimed land along the waterfront near Singapore.
It will be worth RM25 billion (S$7 billion) and features healthcare, medical tourism, recreation and lifestyle sectors.
The first part of the project will be a residential development, The Watermark Residences with 1,596 serviced residential units and 16 retail lots.
It will be located just eight minutes from the Bukit Chagar Station of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS), which is currently under construction.
The second township, Tropicana Uplands, will be situated in Gelang Patah near Legoland Malaysia. It features two-story and two-and-a-half-story terraced houses.
Gelang Patah is around an hour’s drive from Singapore.
“Busier than Kuala Lumpur”
Whether you plan to enjoy the amenities or purchase a property, you’ll be happy to know that the properties are located with easy access to the Causeway and the Singapore Second Link Expressway.
In fact, the deputy chief executive officer of Tropicana Corp Bhd believes that Johor will be “busier than Kuala Lumpur” once the RTS is complete.
He added that there will be a boost in demand for properties across Johor, such as houses, offices, malls and hotels.
As Johor experiences accelerated growth, Tropicana hopes to “transform these townships into dynamic metropolises in the south”.
RTS Link Project
Lest you’ve been hiding under a rock, you would have heard of the RTS Link Project.
It is a railway shuttle link approximately 4km in length with two stations, one in Bukit Chagar, Johor Bahru, Malaysia and one in Woodlands, Singapore.
The link will be a modern Light Rail Transit (LRT) system that will offer a fast and efficient transportation system between the two stations.
Once it opens, there will be an expected ridership of around 40,000 passengers per day.
If you’d like to know more, check out nine facts about the RTS Link that were revealed during PM Lee’s visit to Johor back in January here.
