Most of us have been on the internet for long enough to have seen various memes.
Long enough that even places like Mediacorp want to hire a meme-in-chief.
And regarding cat-related memes, most of us remember more modern ones like the grumpy cat.

However, some of us may not have been young enough to remember Longcat.
Otherwise known by Nobiko, pictures of the cat were uploaded to places like 4chan around 2005 and 2006.
However, the meme gradually lost its popularity around 2012.
Which is…pretty understandable, all things considered. Memes cycle out pretty fast, after all.
According to CNET, the cat reportedly stood at 65 cm tall.
Well, that’s the actual length anyway. Legends say that the Longcat can go up to 900m tall.
In fact, Longcat has been meme’d and photoshopped so hard that there’s even some joke lore surrounding the cat.
The picture shows Longcat and his rival, Tacgnol, battling in control of the earth for many years.

If you couldn’t tell, it’s basically just like a shadow version of the Longcat.
For those interested, you can find a whole host of Longcat’s history and achievements here. Just…don’t take any of it too seriously.
Unfortunately for all of us, the legend of Longcat ended quite recently.
A Fond Memory
On 20 September, Nobiko was rushed to the hospital as it suffered from poor health.
The feline passed away that same day at the age of 18.5 years old.

For us humans, 18 years might seem like an extremely short time.
However, according to some research, a cat above the age of 15 is considered to be pretty old. By comparison to other cats, Nobiko was considered to be very old.
The post from @stegersaurus has garnered over 2100 likes and has been retweeted more than 1300 times as of this writing.
Worldwide Send-off
Memes and cats may pass away, but they are never forgotten.

In the tweet’s replies, everyone expressed their sadness at the passing of the long feline.
Many others also came together by sharing meme-mories and send offs for Nobiko, forever immortalising Longcat online.

Memes aside, it is always tragic when a loved one or a long time companion is gone. For Nobiko’s owner, this is no exception.
We send our good wishes to the owner.
